NewsFoundation Cigar Co.’s New Era: Introducing Wise Man Corojo and Maduro
Author: Inspector X
Foundation Cigar Co. has recently halted production of its original El Güegüense and Wise Man Maduro lines, previously manufactured in Nicaragua at Aganorsa Leaf. However, there’s something new on the horizon. Based in Connecticut, the company has collaborated with the Garcia family to craft the new Wise Man Corojo and Wise Man Maduro at My Father Cigars, the Garcia’s factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
In conversation with Nicholas Melillo, the brand owner, it became evident that these two lines feature entirely new blends, bearing little resemblance to their predecessors. While the core tobacco remains primarily Nicaraguan, it now originates from different seeds cultivated on various farms. Foundation no longer collaborates with Aganorsa Leaf (formerly known as the TABSA factory).
The Wise Man Corojo showcases a Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper, while the Maduro boasts a Mexican cover leaf from San Andrés. Following the construction style of My Father Cigars (and the traditional rolling technique of Cuba), both are wrapped in two binders: one from Estelí and one from Jalapa. The filler blend comprises Nicaraguan tobacco from Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa.
Available in four sizes—Double Corona (7 inches by 54 ring gauge, $13.50), Toro (6 by 52, $12.50), Robusto (5 1/2 by 50, $11.50), and Corona (5 by 48, $10.50)—all are presented in 20-count boxes and will make their debut at this month’s PCA trade show in Las Vegas before hitting retailers in mid-April.
“While bidding farewell to the El Güegüense brand is bittersweet, it holds a significant place in Foundation Cigars’ history,” Melillo remarks. “We believe it will become one of our most collectible and sought-after cigars.”
