Club Macanudo is building an empire. The almost 30 year old Club Macanudo lounge, one of the most famous cigar lounges in the United States, is venturing out with satellite locations worldwide.

Club Macanudo, the popular cigar bar on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is the brainchild of Edgar M. Cullman Jr., who was then the owner of General Cigar Co., maker of Macanudo and Partagas. Sensing a void in New York’s burgeoning cigar scene, and seeking to extend the Macanudo brand, Cullman decided in May 1995 to build “a place for cigars, where everything else is secondary.”

General Cigar Company is now a part of Scandinavian Tobacco Group, after a merge and buy back with Swedish Match and it was no surprise that STG would open another Club Macanudo in their home town of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Expansion in Asia and Beyond

It took 6 long years after opening the Copenhagen branch for the third Club Macanudo to open its doors. STG collaborated with their Malaysian partner Tag Ventures to create a Club Macanudo in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. But the collaboration didn’t stop there, as a new Club Macanudo was opened in Jakarta, Indonesia earlier this year, again as a collaboration between Tag Ventures and STG.

Tag Ventures and STG have more plans for Asia, with the opening of a Club Macanudo in Taipei, Taiwan soon after which they will focus on new locations in Bali, Indonesia and Manila in the Philippines.

Louisiana

When considering Louisiana, one’s thoughts typically gravitate towards the vibrant streets of New Orleans, yet a newfound gem in Bossier City might just broaden your horizons. Nestled within the Bayou State, the latest addition to the Club Macanudo family awaits at the Margaritaville Resort and Casino, illuminating the city’s lesser-known charm. While its doors quietly opened in November, the grand inauguration is slated for tomorrow, marking a significant milestone in Bossier City’s cigar aficionado scene.

In stark contrast to the opulence of its New York City counterpart, this Club Macanudo embraces a laid-back ambiance, resonating with the relaxed, tropical spirit immortalized by singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett in his iconic anthem, “Margaritaville.” Scandinavian Tobacco Group, the proud custodian of the Macanudo brand, describes the venue’s décor as an elegant fusion of coastal allure and sophisticated cigar lounge aesthetics, boasting earthy tones and a serene palette that beckons indulgence and leisure.

Spanning 1,500 square feet indoors, with an additional 600-square-foot outdoor patio offering picturesque views of the resort and the city skyline, the venue provides an inviting space for both seasoned enthusiasts and casual smokers alike. Complementing its fully-stocked bar, Club Macanudo showcases a glass-encased humidor brimming with a curated selection of premium cigar brands from Scandinavian’s illustrious portfolio, including Cohiba, Punch, Partagas, CAO, La Gloria Cubana, and, naturally, Macanudo.

A collaborative endeavour between Margaritaville Resort and Casino and Southern Smoke Cigar Co., a local stalwart renowned for its cigar shops and lounges in the Shreveport area, this Club Macanudo radiates inclusivity. Despite its moniker, the venue warmly welcomes all, mirroring the ethos of its New York counterpart, ensuring that aficionados and novices alike can savour the camaraderie and camaraderie of the cigar culture in a welcoming and hospitable environment.
