New Cigar Release: La Aurora 107

Update: here is our review of the La Aurora 107.

Santiago, DR 12 March 2010 As with their very successful Preferidos, Cien AƱos and 1495, La Aurora has taken their time in the next step in their 107 year history as Dominicanā€™s oldest cigar maker.

ā€œWe had defined our goal early on,ā€ said Guillermo Leon, La Aurora VP, ā€œand that was to bring the smokers a medium bodied, richly flavoured smoke with a fair amount of spice ā€“ at a very attractive price.ā€

Using Dominican, Nicaraguan and Ecuadorian tobaccos, the blending process went through dozens of iterations before achieving a cigar that brings a balanced flavour that is peppery, sweet and provides toasty notes.

According to Vice President, JosƩ Blanco, the cigars are being packed in boxes of twenty-one (21) and will come in three (3) sizes priced from $6 to $8:

  • Robusto (4.5 x 50)
  • Toro (5.5 x 54)
  • Belicoso (6.25 x 52)

ā€œI firmly believe we have a smoke, providing excellent flavour, strength and balance,ā€ JosĆ© Blanco told a gathering of cigar aficionados at a dinner in New York, ā€œthat matches the standards we have adhered to in creating the other great cigars that have brought us high regard and high ratings.ā€

The cigar, named La Aurora 107 in honour of the companyā€™s 107 years in business, will be released in a series of steps, commencing 1 April. ā€œIn conjunction with Guillermo and Jose we have planned an exciting series of events to introduce tobacconists and their customers to this cigar,ā€ Nestor Miranda said at the same gathering in New York City.

ā€œAs for the name, La Aurora 107, following on the heels of Cien AƱos, which marked the companyā€™s 100th anniversary,ā€ Leon told the group, ā€œit was decided to keep it simple and meaningfulā€¦ and easy to remember, hence, La Aurora 107 ā€“ La Auroraā€™s 107th year!ā€

La Auroraā€™s distributor, Miami Cigar & Company, has announced that the new cigar will only be available in brick and mortar tobacconists.

  1. Found a box of 107 Belicoso’s. Think it will be worth smoking a few and then aging the rest for a year or so. Like the La Aurora line and have bought many to smoke and age. A wonderful smoke with a lot of heart and soul in it.

  2. I usually like a mild cigar with a conneticut wrapper like Montecristo White, etc. But this one may be the exception. My favorite smoke shop in Nashville (Uptown’s in Green Hills) gave me a small promo to try. It was stronger than I’m used to but it didn’t offend. The sweet flavors really sold me on it. Creamy like a mild, but with extra flavor. If you’re a mild smoker and want to venture into a medium body cigar, I highly recommend it!

  3. I do like that companies do this but if you live 100 miles any direction from a good b&m, your out of luck most of the time with the newer stuff. Some of these eventually leak out to internet sales though

  4. Glad to see this company supporting local tobacconists
