NewsGuillotina de Saka Cutter to Begin Shipping This Week
Author: Inspector X
Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust’s Guillotina de Saka cutter—meaning “guillotine of Saka” in Spanish—will begin shipping to select retailers this week.
This premium single guillotine cutter is constructed with a 420 stainless steel blade encased in a stainless steel exterior with a Cerakote OD Green finish. Each cutter, priced at $395, comes with a replacement blade.
The Guillotina de Saka features several unique design elements. The steel blade is designed to be easily replaceable by consumers without the need for special tools. The cutter also has dual openings of different sizes: one side is designed for cigars up to a 48 ring gauge, while the other is ideal for cigars with a 50 ring gauge or larger.
Steve Saka, the founder of Dunbarton, developed the cutter in collaboration with Luigi Lucente, a product development engineer at CigarMedics, Inc. Lucente also designed The Baller, a cutter that combines aspects of both a punch cutter and a v-cutter. Notably, these cutters are made in America, which is rare for this type of product.
Saka drew inspiration for the Guillotina de Saka from his experience using the Cigar Bris Tool, a single guillotine cutter with a plastic body that Drew Estate sold until the mid-2000s. Saka served as an executive and partner at Drew Estate from 2005 to 2013.
Approximately 1,000 cutters will begin shipping this week, with availability restricted to the company’s most supportive accounts. Saka also noted that no additional shipments are planned for this year. The cutter has been in development for several years, with about 150 prototypes distributed to various individuals last year.
Originally, Saka intended to use the cutters as promotional items due to their high manufacturing costs but later decided to offer them for sale.
