Drew Estate is broadening the availability of several of its cigars, including the acclaimed Blackened Cigars “M81 Maduro,” created in collaboration with James Hetfield of Metallica and Rob Dietrich of Blackened American Whiskey.
These latest offerings were introduced last week at the InterTabac trade show in Germany. The original maduro version launched in the United States in November 2022, receiving high praise with all sizes earning scores of 90 points or higher in a vertical tasting published by Cigar Insider. Notably, the corona size is currently ranked as the No. 7 Cigar of the Year in Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25, boasting an impressive 95-point score.
This year, Drew Estate expanded the line with a milder option, Blackened “S84 Shade To Black,” which started shipping in the U.S. in May.
“These expressions are more than just cigars for us,” Hetfield shared, highlighting his passion for cigars, often seen enjoying them on stage. “It is a celebration of passion and a tribute to the craftsmen who strive for excellence in their lives.”
This expansion aligns with Metallica’s extensive international reach, as the band has performed on every continent, including Antarctica, and is currently on a world tour, with a stop in Mexico City this weekend.
Alongside the Blackened cigars, Drew Estate also introduced the Liga Privada Unico Series Papas Bravas to global markets. This cigar features a dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, a Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers. It is available in two sizes—a robusto and a toro—and is exclusively for sale outside the United States.
Additionally, Drew Estate unveiled the Undercrown 10 Flying Pig, marking a decade of the Undercrown brand. This cigar showcases a Mexican San Andrés Negro wrapper, a Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and a blend of Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan fillers. Its unique perfecto shape measures just shy of four inches long (3 15/16 inches) and has a hefty 60 ring gauge.
Pricing for these cigars will vary depending on the country in which they are sold.
