    VegaFina Short Corona
    Origin : Dominican Republic
    Format : Petit Corona
    Size : 102 x 16 mm
    Ring : 40
    Wrapper : Brazil
    Binder : Dominican Republic
    Filler : Dominican Republic, Peru
    Price : ~2€ each

I initially planned to review another petit corona, but (I am getting used to it…) my local B&M ran out of those and I ended up buying a few VegaFina Short Coronas, since they were cheap and reminded me of my good experiences with the Robusto. Back home, I went to the Altadis website to get some more information about this stick and I was quite surprised to see that it was not even there and the cigars listed definitely had a brighter wrapper shade. After some research, I found out that indeed the cigars sold in Europe are completely different: instead of an Ecuadorian claro wrapper, a maduro oscuro from Brazil is used and the filler is Dominican/Peruvian (vs Columbian/Dominican/Honduran in the US). However, both cigars are hecho a mano in la Tabacalera de Garcia in the Dominican Republic.

    Appearance : [rating:4/5]
The wrapper is quite toothy and rough, with a few little discolorations and often one fat vein that really stands out. Unlit, it almost has no smell.

    Construction : [rating:4.5/5]
The construction of this stick is rather fine, with a regular burn and correct draw. The pre-draw was a little tight and earthy. I expected more smoke out of this one though.

    Flavor : [rating:3/5]
Unfortunately, there is not much to say about the VegaFina Short Corona flavor-wise. From the very beginning, the taste is too sugary, mild and light-bodied. After a few minutes, creamy vanilla flavors make their way in, and that’s kind of all. The smoke is monotone until the middle of the last third, where it becomes too hot and I’m tempted to put the cigar down.

    Value : [rating:3.5/5]
Average value. The price is right for a cigar with decent construction, but they are too mild for me.

    Overall Rating : [rating:4/5]
A little disappointing, because I was expecting something more entertaining. However, this might be a good choice for those who like mild cigars and are on a budget.
