If you are looking for classic Partagas flavor, look no further than the Partagas Serie D No. 6, released in 2014. This (very) petit robusto measures just 90 mm with a 50-ring gauge. What’s great about the small size is that you can smoke this stogie fast—from start to finish in about 15-25 minutes, depending on your smoking speed. That is perfect if you are a busy 9-5 worker and want to spoil yourself on your lunch break before getting back to the grind. Usually I really prefer to kick back and relax with a stogie, but now and again, you just don’t have the time. Is this the perfect smoke for those rushed interludes of luxury? Let’s find out.

This is a nice-looking cigar, make no mistake. The wrapper leaf is quite smooth and only shows a few fine veins (you can hardly tell they are there). It has a lovely oily sheen and is packed pretty tight, but nothing that concerns me. The medium-brown color almost has a golden glow to it, and the red band has a nice simplistic, bold design that really “pops” against the wrapper without overwhelming it. There’s a perfect triple cap.

The pre-light draw gives me a nice, sweet preview of the flavors, and I can detect straight away that this is a typical Partagas flavor profile, just as advertised. The draw is neither tight nor loose, and stays perfect through the whole experience. As to the burn, it was a little uneven to begin with, but generally self-corrected, with me only having to intervene a few times. The ash clings to the end for a couple of inches (you could try smoking this cigar all the way down without ashing, like a Nub), and is medium grey.

That’s one serious blast of pepper starting out. After a few draws, the pepper backs off, for which I am thankful, though it has left a bit of a burn in the back of my throat. Flavors are natural tobacco, coffee, and chocolate, with hints of leather, wood, and earth. During the middle third, the flavors get stronger and bolder, and the pepper picks back up again. To me the flavors seem a little harsh, which I guess shouldn’t surprise me since the tobacco hasn’t had much of a chance to age. The flavors continue to get stronger in the final third, though thankfully the harshness has declined again. In terms of intensity, it is definitely full-bodied. How long did it take to smoke? It took me around 25 minutes.

At $8-10 a stick, these aren’t cheap for what amounts to a 15- to 25-minute smoking experience. I mean, I know that they are supposed to be designed for short intervals, and with the harsh/peppery flavors, that is almost a relief, but I would prefer they were a couple dollars less.

To be honest, as much as I wanted to love these, I couldn’t, because despite the amazing construction and appearance, this cigar’s flavors overwhelmed me a bit. They would have overwhelmed me even more had this been a longer-duration smoke. I do think though that in a few years, given some time to age, these stogies might be better-balanced and more enjoyable. That ammonia harshness should fall off a bit. If it was just the peppery blast, I think I’d have enjoyed the Partagas Serie D No. 6 more. Got a box of these hidden in the humidor, will give them another try in 6 months. In the meanwhile, the Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robusto remains my favorite short smoke.

Got a box of 5 from LCDH Knokke and have tried one. Likely needs a bit more ageing, but I enjoyed the stick. No ammonia and the classic Partagas flavour. Likely a little over-priced for a short robusto though.

I 100% agree with Denis review.I don’t know what a good aging will do to D6 but I don’t expect it to “rival” the D4,which is much more refined and complex.
It took 45 minutes to smoke it.

I love the No No. 4 & No. 5 Partagas sticks and the concept of a petit version appeals. In Europe these can come in tins of 5 and that will be a good way to check these out.

I’m a little surprised at the flavor profile you discovered. Although I’ve not had the No. 6, I find the No. 4 to be a fine robusto, if not one of the best. I would have thought that the blend would have been similar in those two seeing how close they are in size. The No. 4 has always been very pleasant, although there was no doubt that it was a Partagas.
