My Father cigars may only be a recent name in the world of premium cigars, founded in 2003 by Don José “Pepin” Garcia, but it’s a world famous one. My Father’s motto is, “the art, tradition, and style of Cuba,” though their cigars are not manufactured there. My Father Cedros Deluxe Eminentes was crafted with a Nicaraguan binder and filler wrapped in an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado leaf.
Appearance : [rating:5/5]
This is a gorgeous cigar. The band includes an elaborate design, with a corresponding band around the foot of the cigar, creating a seamless look. There is also pristine lettering on the cedar sleeve, and the entire look is one of great elegance and craftsmanship. Underneath the cedar sleeve, the wrapper is slightly oily and a rich brown in color with very few visible veins.
Construction : [rating:4.5/5]
The cigar feels slightly soft, but it’s consistent and there are no spots which feel more or less soft than any other. The draw is perfect right from the start, offering just the right amount of resistance. The burn is impeccable through most of the smoke; it gets a little wavy during the first third, but it’s easy to correct and doesn’t happen again.
Flavor : [rating:5/5]
Just as you’d expect from the cedar sleeve, this cigar smokes as advertised. Cedar is the predominant aroma and flavor throughout the first two thirds, though there is also a hint of spice, perhaps clove, as well as a slight creaminess. An earthy backdrop provides a foundation for the flavor combination. Around halfway, the cedar is even stronger than before, and now there is some pepper and a hint of coffee. The coffee note is much stronger in the last third, and the spices also increase along with the strength of the cigar (though only to a minor degree). The cedar takes a backseat in the final third, with the coffee and spices dominating the smoke.
Value : [rating:4.5/5]
The price for this cigar seems to fall anywhere in the $7.00-$9.00 range. At the upper end that may be a little expensive, though you’re getting a great cigar. At the lower end it’s extremely reasonable. Depending on the price, I could see making these a regular treat.
Overall Rating : [rating:5/5]
The My Father Cedros Deluxe Eminentes is definitely a high quality cigar which lives up to its initial, very impressive presentation. This is one of the most beautifully designed sticks I’ve seen. The predictable cedar aroma and flavor is enjoyable, and the way that it is offset by the coffee and spices as the smoke gradually (but consistently) transforms is pleasant and surprising. The development of the cigar’s flavors shows the same level of attention to detail as the appearance. It’s clear that a lot of time, thought and work went into crafting this cigar so that it would deliver a consistent and balanced smoking experience.

The My Father brand was started by Pepin’s son Jamie, not Pepin himself. The Le Bijou vitola was Pepin’s addition to this line though he does help his son with the blending.
