Origin : Dominican Republic Format : Robusto Size : 114 x 20 mm Ring : 50 Strength : Medium-Full Wrapper Color : Medium Brown (E) Wrapper Type : Habana 2000 Binder : Indonesian Filler : Dominican Republic Hand-Made Price : ~$10.00/each
Being a major fan of the Robusto format, I knew from first sight at the tobacco shop that I would be picking up one of the Gurkha Regent Robusto cigars. After trying it, I’m glad I did, though I kind of got mixed feelings on this smoke.
Appearance : [rating:5/5]
A prettier smoke you could not ask for. As usual, Gurkha has upheld the usual level of excellence in craftsmanship. Lovely color and the wrapping was flawless. Heck, even the box it came out of was lovely!
Construction : [rating:4/5]
Though you won’t hear this complaint too often, the draw was actually a little loose. The first hit was almost too much, though toning down my personal draw seemed to fix the problem.
Flavor : [rating:4/5]
The first taste was far too strong, but it was all because of the fact that I expected a tighter draw and hit it far too hard. Other than that, the first third was an intricate and careful blend of cognac and earth tones. Very nice. The second third brought no new surprises, though I believe I detected just a hint of cedar in there. The final third was all zing and excitement. Good sting to it with a robust cognac coffee mixed tinge.
Value : [rating:5/5]
Definitely worth while, particularly at such an affordable price!
Overall Rating : [rating:overall/5]
This may have been the most intricate and complex mix of flavors that I have ever experienced in a cigar. Other than the ones mentioned above, there were a couple of other familiar flavors that I could not quite identify. Very pleasant though. Just remember to not hit it too hard on the light up. Play around with it. Overall, an excellent smoke indeed.

just got a 5’r from CI and couldnt wait to light this one up…1st Gurkha…
and i must say…i love every minute of this one…very nice spice..not too peppery…which i dont like.. nice tobacco medium to full…the diesels d.6 shorty and unholy are stronger…this was more complex than the diesels..lots of cocoa where the diesels have more tobacco and leather to me…but i do love the diesels richness…for $15 for 5….cant find a better $3 smoke anywhere…so far this is my new staple along with the diesels..im a true believer in not keeping to 2 or 3 brands..so for my first gurkha 4 out of 5 stars…cant wait to taste the others int he line up..have some 601 blues on the way…heard this might be my favorite $5 smoke.
also i love the odd box press…thinner on one side fits nicely in the mouth
DEFINATELY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF U CAN GET FOR $3-$4..nver spent more than $5 /stick in my life

My Review of the Gurkha Regent Toro (6 x 50)
This was a beautiful box pressed cigar. I was given this cigar by a guy at my local B&M. I was shocked. He had a box that his rep gave him when he asked for some freebies for an event. Wow! This is a super premium and it was great. The flavor was so rich and smooth. The burn was perfect, the draw was perfect. I really enjoyed this cigar. The press was a little more severe than what I usually go for but it didn’t bother me. The flavor was slightly spicy and slightly sweet at the same time. It was very unique and delicious. Unfortunately this cigar is bit too expensive for me to smoke very often. Chances are I won’t land another one of these for free.

I have one of these (actually, I have a whole lotta Gurkha singles); looking forward to having the time and the steak (and the scotch?) to give this one a try!
I also have one of those long skinny box pressed jobbers… hmmm… what was the name again? Some sorta micro-batch? So, c’mon, is “micro batch” just marketing (you know, a way to sell a few leftovers)?

The Regent is an okay cigar, but with the brand name, you expect a lot more. Coming from “the Rolls-Royce of cigar makers”, the Regent is more like a Ford Tempo. There are some decent flavors in there, but they’re timid and tentative. There are better Gurkhas out there, but these are alright, especially at blow-out pricing.

I bought 15 of these from one of my on-line retailers. I must agree with the first draw power.
I said “WOA, I LIKE THESE BABIES”.

I just do not like this cigar. All but 2 Gurkha cigars I have smoke have a musty taste that I just don’t like.

At $10 I find these a little pricey, but still a good smoke.
