Diplomaticos Nortenos exclusivo Canada. The release for Canada from the 2018 Regional Edition program from Habanos. The cigars were released in late 2018. There were 6000 boxes of ten cigars available, as they went fast. Habanos collectors already knew the cigars, as the marca in this size was available before. In 2015, the same cigar was the Cuban exclusivo under the Excelencia name.
Diplomaticos is a post-revolution brand. It emerged in 1966, mainly for the French market as a milder and cheaper alternative for Montecristo. Diplomaticos is still a small marca in the Habanos portfolio, but it has a reputation and fanbase within the community of Cuban cigar smokers. This Diplomaticos Nortenos measures 4â…žx50, the classic Cuban Robusto size.

The review
This is a classic Robusto size. The same size as the most famous robusto in the world, the Cohiba robusto. The wrapper has a nice color and quite some oil. But it is bumpy due to the bumpy wrapper underneath. As always, the different bands don’t mix. The red and silver exclusivo ring does not go well with the yellow, red, and gold ring of the Diplomaticos brand. The construction feels okay, with no plugs nor soft spots. The aroma is pretty strong, with green spicy herbs, and a hint of ammonia.
The cold draw is a bit hard. The spicy green herbs from the aroma return in the cold draw. Once lit, there is some nuttiness, leather, and pepper. The retrohale gives a mild earthy flavor. Leather is growing a bit in strength. There is a hint of pepper and sweetness. The nutty flavor is mild, but still around. At the end of the first third, there is a little floral flavor.
The second third has a lot more strength and a lot more flavor. Pepper, leather, wood, and nuts. There is a faint hint of vanilla around the halfway point. Wood returns too in the background. But leather and pepper are the main flavors. In the final third, there is leather, toast, and pepper. Toast and nuts are getting stronger, but the leather and pepper are still there as well. The finale is a nice mixture of pepper, wood, leather, nuts, and toast.
The draw is acceptable. A little tight, but acceptable. The light gray ash is dense. The burn is straight. The smoke is very thin. This is a medium to medium full cigar in both body and flavor. The smoke time is two hours.
Strength: Medium to medium full Flavor: Medium to medium full
