Siglo V is part of Linea 1492 Cohiba launched in 1992 to commemorate the 500 years since Christopher Columbus arrived on the island. Linea 1492 is the mildest from the whole Cohiba portfolio. Siglo V is probably the most elegant from all six cigars in Linea 1492.
Appearance: Rating: ★★★★1/2
The siglo I am smoking has the older band without the ‘’taino’’ Indian head, the cigar looks like a fairly standard one, but when you look closely the band is full with nice details and a lot of yellow & gold colouring. Cigar itself it’s almost the colour of a peanut butter, there is a bit of oil, but not that much to consider as an oily wrapper. There are some veins but nothing huge and oversized.
Construction: Rating: ★★★★1/2
Technical performance is excellent. Smoke is enough to be perfectly enjoyable. Little bit of uneven burn, but the draw is phenomenal.
Flavour: Rating: ★★★★★
Cold draw is open and taste like botanicals and herbal tea
First puffs are very unique – peanut butter and a mix of white pepper and wood, which change constantly to one or the other.
The second part continues with a non expected very smooth black pepper, which disappears quickly, the overall sweetness continues with a lot of sweetness almost like a cotton candy or sweet gum. Finish is super floral.
Last third started a little bit dry and the black pepper came back for the first puffs, flavours are even more enjoyable, not that creamy, wood, vanilla, a lot of sweetness and pleasant white pepper on retro.
Value: Rating: ★★★
Couple issues here: First is the availability, as most exceptional Cuban cigars and this one is not always available. Second, the price in the UK is around £45-50, mostly because of Cohiba which is the flagship cigar of Cuba and most of the premium price is because of that.
Overall Rating: Rating: ★★★★
One of the best Cuban cigars I have smoked, the flavours are just outstanding. No issues with the draw, which most of the time usually is because of how they have been stored. Not a full 5 star, mostly because of the price tag and the availability. But that is a box worth cigar( if you find one) 🙂
