    Quai d’Orsay 50 Review

    Pre lighting.

This Quai D’Orsay 50 is a Serie D vitola, commonly known as a Petit Robusto. This extremely popular Vitola is a great way to start with this renewed Quai D’Orsay brand. Montefortuna Cigars asked me to review this cigar and added it at no extra cost in my last order.

As I cut the cigar and test the resistance, the draw is perfect, not tight but not too loose either. On cold draw I can get subtle leather and cedar notes.

The cigar looks very even, with a clear wrapper and nearly no imperfections, now I am ready to light it!

    Part 1

On the first third of this cigar, as I light it, I find it straight away subtle and smooth, with hardly any sharpness. This is very surprising as I am smoking a stick from a March 2018 box.
As the cigar heats up the aromas and flavors develop into a medium bodied cigar. There are some hints of burnt caramel and more leather. I am pairing this cigar with a nice expresso coffee, which is a bit overpowering, but really complements the initial notes of this Quai D’Orsay 50.

    Part 2

As I approach the second third of the cigar, I find myself thinking that my expresso pairing could be a bit overpowering, so I add a splash of milk, with makes it mild enough to balance the pairing.
The cigar is developing more into a consistent medium cigar, so the pairing is working just fine and I am getting more aromas. There is still the burnt caramel and the leather, but upon retro-haling I can also taste salted cracker.
Suddenly it happens, as I reach half of the second third, there is the sharpness and ammonia, this cigar is young, and it is showing it now. Even-though clearly present it does not make the smoking experience too unpleasant.

    Part 3

As I start the last third, the ammonia taste is vanishing, and I am starting to enjoy this Petit Robusto even more. I am getting the salted cracker taste even more and the cigar is balancing out extraordinarily.
At this point I believe the Quai D’Orsay 50 has reached its full potential, flavors intertwine and give me hints of toffee, leather, cedar and roasted coffee beans.
As the cigar ends, the ash has lasted consistently throughout the whole smoke, I find myself pondering, should I age the rest of the box or have it as it is. This will be my dilemma when choosing my next smoke!

Montefortuna is a legit online retailer, but its prices are really expensive, considering that you also have to pay 14EUR additionally for shipping. Even my local retailer has lower prices than Montefortuna

I think Montefortuna has one of the most competitive prices out there! Also they operate from Switzerland , so not really sure what you are talking about!

Montefortuna which is based in Spain is a very expensive source of cigars. Also, given that the Spanish government has a monopoly on the sale of cigars, they are operating illegally
