Arturo Fuente Don Carlos personal Reserva

A.Fuente Don Carlos Personal Reserve Robusto

Known for the slogan “The Man’s 80th,” this tribute to Carlos Fuente is a real winner. When Carlos Fuente turned 80, and his own production line, Don Carlos, celebrated its 30th anniversary, A. Fuente took this opportunity to unveil Carlos’s personal blend to the public. In 2015, the “Don Carlos Personal Reserve” and “The Eye of the Shark” were released. These cigars are wildly popular and often difficult to find to this day. Now, the cigar we are discussing here is specifically the Personal Reserve Robusto. This Don Carlos uses Dominican tobacco as filler, the binder is also from the Dominican Republic, and the wrappers are from Cameroon. The cigar has a ring gauge of 50 and a length of 127mm. The strength is around 85 percent, and you’ll enjoy it for about 60 minutes. Now, the only downside I find is its price. This small robusto costs a hefty 29 euros, but I must admit it’s worth every cent!!! Now, there’s no arguing about the taste; it’s fantastic! The aroma alone had a chocolate-like quality that greatly piqued my interest. We encounter flavors such as Spice, Citrus, Caramel, Vanilla, Pepper, Chocolate,… Below are the specifications of the cigar: Ring Gauge: 50 Length: 127mm Blend: Dominican Republic Binder: Dominican Republic Wrapper: Cameroon Vitola: Robusto Price: 29 euros Body: Full (approximately 80%) Smoking Time: 50/60 minutes

Before lighting up this rare cigar, I take a moment to admire it. The first thing that strikes me is the immense array of aromas such as: Cocoa, dried hay, vanilla, coffee, cinnamon, and so much more. The wrapper offers a robust aged appearance. Upon lighting, that first “puff” truly explodes with flavor. I taste: Vanilla, Cedar, light spice, Caramel, coffee, dried hay, chocolate, and cream.

    2/3=
The great thing about Fuente is that the flavors evolve rapidly, and the Don Carlos is no exception. In the second part of this cigar, the flavors shift a bit. I taste: Citrus, Cider, Vanilla, Cedar, and caramel. The new flavors that emerge include: Red pepper, Cocoa, dried hay, and in the background, a tangy note.

    3/3=
In the final third, there are no further evolutions. The tangy note in the background disappears, making way for a delightful cedar note. The only downside is that the burn of this cigar goes very quickly. I would have liked it to last longer! In the final third, I taste: Butter, Vanilla, Coffee, Cocoa, Red pepper, citrus, cider, and caramel notes. Final Conclusion: No one can deny that this is another beautiful Fuente cigar. As a Fuente enthusiast, I highly recommend it to everyone. The downside, of course, is the price. For 29 euros, you could just as well get an Opus X that lasts twice as long. But if we set that fact aside, I must admit, this little Fuente offers a very pleasant experience. The flavor palette is beautifully layered, as we’re accustomed to with Carlos, and the combination of Fuente tobacco with Cameroon wrappers is, in my opinion, the best there is!! Half-wheel gives this A. Fuente Don Carlos Personal Reserve Robusto a score of 85/100; I give it more and assign it 89. I would even give it 95 if the cigar smoked longer and cost less. All in all, a nice final score!
