Xikar Xi2

The Xikar Xi2 is a teardrop double guillotine cutter. Another name used is ‘butterfly’ cutter. It’s made with hardened metal and lightweight nylon fiberglass to make is durable, light and easy to carry. The blades are made from stainless steel. The Xikar Xi2 can cut cigars up to ring 60. The graphics are printed on both sides of the cutters. The cutters are supported under Xikar’s limited lifetime warranty program.

The cutter is designed by Kurt Van Keppel who invented it in the mid-1990s. He was unhappy with the cutters on the market and designed the original Xikar Xi cutter in his garage. Xikar is the Taino name for a cigar, and Van Keppel wanted an X in the name to represent the double guillotine cutter. The i in Xi represents the cigar. Together with Scott Almsberger, Van Keppel changed the cigar accessory game. Xikar became the market leader for cigar cutters, lighters, and travel humidors.

In 2018, Almsberger and Van Keppel sold Xikar to its main rival, Quality Importers. Quality Importers is the owner of other accessory brands including Palio. Van Keppel and Almsberger remained as vice-presidents for a short time before leaving Quality Importers and enjoy lives outside of the cigar industry.
