Weekly news week 50 2020. In the last few months, We shine a light on cigar industry legends. People who have or had a huge impact on the cigar Industry. People that are still working in the industry, and people that left this world to harvest tobacco in heaven. This week’s Industry Legend is Henke Kelner, the man who created the Dominican Davidoff when Zino left Cuba. Philip & Ferdy continued the series about counterfeit Cuban cigars as a follow-up to the different articles that we wrote about the subject.

Reviews 

The reviews of this week come from Cuba and Nicaragua. We started with a collaboration between A.J. Fernandez, Rabbit Hole Bourbon, and Maier & Dutch. It’s the Diesel Whisky Row Robusto. Made by A.J. Fernandez with tobacco aged in barrels from Rabbit Hole Bourbon. The second cigar review of the week is the H. Upmann Royal Robusto from Cuba.

News

Quite a few new cigars are released. PDR comes out with a reblended and repackaged version of its 1878 lines. With colorful packaging. A famous monument features the boxes, so people can remember Santiago now that travel to the Dominican Republic is at a low point due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Blanco Cigars is releasing a cigar praising Prince Hall, the founder of the Black Masonry. German Engineered Cigars is releasing a cigar with no name and minimal packaging. That way the smoker is forced to focus on the cigar instead of the packaging, or the story. Black Label Trading Company is releasing its annual Morphine. For the first time, some boxes are coming to European retailers. ADVentura is coming with its annual ADVentura The Conqueror Emperor’s Edition Lancero as well. 

Last year the Cuban brand San Cristobal de La Habana turned 20. Habanos announced a San Cristobal 20 Anniversario for the La Casa del Habano franchises. And now, at the end of 2020, these cigars finally arrive at LCDH locations worldwide. Tatuaje is coming out with two Robusto samplers. Each sampler contains six cigars, 5 of which aren’t available as a robusto outside this sampler. Jas Sum Kral is updating the JSK Nuggs packaging, from boxes of 20 to boxes of 10. Casdagli is also updating the packaging on two of its cigars.

If you are a golfer and you are looking for a cool cigar holder when you’re playing a round of golf, look at the brand new HENK Cigartee. A cool design, that comes with a punch. And it is also useful for hikers and camping trips. The Asian cigar enthusiasts should put December 15 on their agenda.
