Weekly news week 37 2020. Richard Meerapfel, a name that probably doesn’t ring a lot of bells if you’re not in the cigar industry. But the man is a legend. Without him, Cameroon wrappers would be a thing from the past. He almost singlehandedly saved it from extinction. That’s why we pay tribute to the man in the series of Cigar Legends.

Every week, we publishes two cigar reviews. This week is no exception. The first review of the week is the Hiram & Solomon Traveling Man Lancero. Named after the high ranking freemasons that traveled from lodge to lodge. The second cigar is a Dominican cigar. A dark and scary looking Kristoff Vengenace Toro. And there is a lot of good news for the cigar enthusiasts from New Zealand. A lot of new cigars arrived, with even more new releases on the horizon.

That foundation supports families of the 412 first responders that made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, 2001. And the last new cigar of the week is the P.P. Rubens. MaranCigars is bringing back this old Belgian cigar brand. In two different blends, Samson and Delilah.

Last June, Joya de Nicaragua released 500 limited edition boxes of the Joya de Nicaragua Antano lines. Those boxes contain a game, Shut the box. Several Joya de Nicaragua distributors confirmed to us that they are getting these boxes as well. It is unclear if these are part of the original 500 boxes, or that a new batch is made for the International markets. Alec Bradley teamed up with an artist to make 1500 limited edition MegaBurner lighters. Three different designs limited to 500 pieces each. When it comes to limited editions, Daniel Marshall takes the cake with the Daniel Marshall XXXVIII Anniversary by Carlos Fuente. This week, more details for this fantastic cigars emerged. Including a list on where to get them.

Other news

The beautiful, unique, battlefield tested humidors from Ammodor are on its way to Malaysia. The family-owned, veteran-owned humidor making company signed a distribution agreement with Puros Asia. Each humidor can be customized and not one humidor is exactly the same. The humidors are made from A-grade military surplus ammo cans with thick Spanish cedar insides. We don’t write about pipe-tobacco often. But every now and then there is a strong link with cigars. That’s when we cross the bridge. This week, one of the major cigar distributors in Switzerland starts to distribute Ashton pipe-tobacco. Where we usually see a lot of pipes and pipe tobacco is at Intertabac. The trade show is canceled, and it was supposed to be replaced with ITS Hub. A hybrid event, part online and part trade-show. But the ITS Hub is canceled as well due to the pandemic.
