Weekly news week 24 2020. It has been an exciting week. Visitor numbers went through the roof when we posted about the insensitive and racial comments of Gurkha owner Kaizad Hansotia on Sunday. And the article about him resigning from Gurkha drew a lot of attention as well. During the Gurkha Zoom Town Hall, Jim Colucci explained that Hansotia is selling his share in Gurkha. We will keep an eye on the progress and will report on it in a follow-up article. We also published suggestions for PCA, TPE, and Intertabac.


As usual, two reviews were published. We reviewed the Jas Sum Kral Tyrannical Buc Maduro Magnum 48. A fantastic cigar from Nicaragua. The second cigar is the VegaFina 1998 Robusto. Made to commemorate the birth year of the VegaFina brand. And not really a review, but cigar talk, Episode 18 of The Philip & Ferdi Cigar Show.

Drew Estate and Joya

There was a lot of news from Drew Estate. Yesterday the company hosted a Freestyle Live: Special Edition on Facebook live. And for that occasion, plenty of new lines were announced. The ACID 20 line gets two line additions. The annual limited edition BOTL is returning for 2020. There is a Herrera Esteli Connecticut Broadleaf Lancero Tienda Exclusiva on its way. Originally this cigar was a store exclusive brand for H-Town. And last but not least, Shady Records and Drew Estate are releasing the next installment of the Undercrown Shady XX. During the Freestyle Facebook Live, a new Deadwood was announced. The Leather Rose is a 6×54 Maduro Torpedo. And the Undercrown Dogma Dojo Sun Grown is making a limited edition return Joya de Nicaragua expands the Joya Cinco Decadas with a torpedo called El Doctor.

International news

On the international markets, plenty is going on. Stefanie Birtel is replacing Olaf Ruf as Vice President and Managing Director of Davidoff of Geneva Germany, and Austria. The Nicaraguan made Condega Cigars are now available in Cyprus at several tobacconists and through online shopping. Antigua Esteli is expanding the worldwide distribution. Japan and several European countries are added. Plus the Dominican brand Los Dueños is back on the Belgian market after a hiatus of a few years. A brand new cigar shop and lounge opened in Mykonos, Greece. Plus we posted a list of virtual tastings for the United Kingdom.
