Villiger releases two Brazilian cigars. At the TPE Trade Show next week, the Swiss cigar company is releasing a Brazilian puro in two different blends. The Villager do Brasil in both a Claro and a Maduro version. The cigars are made at Villiger’s Brazilian factory, Villiger do Brasil, which opened in 2018 in Bahia.

The Villiger family’s relationship with Brazilian tobacco dates to Villiger Cigars’ beginnings in 1888. Jean Villiger and his wife Louise Villiger imported Brazilian tobacco, shortly after founding the company. Later in 1979, a Villiger subsidiary company opened Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul), Brazil. The company was named CHARUTOS TOBAJARA LIMITADA and produced handmade cigars for export to Germany and Switzerland. Later Villiger moved operations to Northern Brazil (Bahia) where the new Villiger do Brazil factory was opened.

Two blends

The cigars come in two blends. Both are Brazilian puros. One blend sports a light Brazil Connecticut Shade wrapper. The other blend is wrapped in a dark Arapiraca Maduro wrapper. According to the press release, both cigars are medium-bodied but the Maduro version is the stronger of the two. Both cigars will be released in a 5×50 Robusto and a 6×50 Toro size.

Heinrich Villiger said in a press statement that “My family saw the value in Brazilian tobacco when they began Villiger Cigars as a very small operation in 1888. Brazilian tobacco is unique, as its structure is very robust, which leads to strong aromas and flavors. Its distinct qualities can only be created in Bahia, Brazil. We look forward to sharing the Villiger do Brasil brand with the United States marketplace.”
