Vigilant Inc temporarily produces face shields for healthcare workers. The New Hampshire based humidor and wine cellar manufacturer is helping healthcare facilities in the Northeast. Those healthcare facilities face shortages of medical equipment and personal protective gear during the covid-19 pandemic. Vigilant can produce a couple of thousand shields a week and hopes to make more than ten thousand to help the frontline workers during the epidemic.

A portion of the manufacturing facility of Vigilant Inc will be dedicated to the production of the masks. The masks are approved bu the National Institute of Health. The engineers of Vigilant have remodeled a prototype with common materials and CNC machining. Software programming will control the factory equipment during production.

Grassroots operation

“As a company that is grateful to the healthcare workers who are making the ultimate sacrifice on the front lines during this time, it’s just the right thing to do,” commented Charles Griffiths, president and CEO of Vigilant to Cigar Aficionado. Vigilant will also be sharing the design, the production details and the materials used to other woodworking and manufacturing communities. By providing that information, the manufacturer or cabinets and humidors hopes to get a grassroots operation going.

The company is reaching out to regional healthcare facilities and hospitals. But through social media, they also approach press and local community leaders. Lawrence General Hospital, New Hampshire fire departments and Boston’s Dana Farber Cancer Cente already received masks from Vigilant. Other healthcare facilities and first responder units from New Hampshire to New York can request help from Vigilant Inc. The units sell for $3 which is below the production and fulfillment costs.
