ProNica is a charity foundation, started in The Netherlands. Founder Sasja van Horssen, the distributor of many Non-Cuban cigar brands, wanted to use his position to raise money for the underprivileged citizens of Nicaragua. The country has given Van Horssen so much over the years, as a business man but also as a cigar aficionado, that he felt it was his duty. And he’s in a position to do so.

For each Nicaraguan cigar that his distribution company sells in The Netherlands, he donates ten dollar cents to Pronica. Pronica works with Joya de Nicaragua and Fe y Alegria in Esteli, Nicaragua. Fe y Alegria supports education for the children of the poorest families in the Northern Nicaraguan city.

In the last few years, donations from Pronica have helped to build new classrooms, purchase supplies and paid for the education of many children. Children who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to receive a quality education. Last September at the Intertabac trade show, Pronica received recognition from the industry. The charity received the Cigar Journal Charity award at the Cigar Journal Award show.

On Saturday, April 13, Van Horssen will unveil the 2018 results of Pronica. It will happen during a special night in his flagship store Cigaragua in Amsterdam. He will also unveil two new supporters. Royal Agio and Oliva have been donating to Pronica for the last few years, now two more supporters signed up. Brian Shapiro from Oliva Cigars will be the special guest.
