Two new perfectos for Foundation Cigars. In an exclusive press release for Cigar Aficionado, Foundation Cigars announces two perfectos. Both cigars are a line-extension to the biblically themed Tabernacle line. The names David & Goliath fall in line with the theme.

David & Goliath

The David is a 5×54 Perfecto while the Goliath is thicker with a 5×58 size. The cigars use a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper of a Mexican San Andres binder. The filler tobacco comes from Honduras and Nicaragua. For this line, Foundation Cigars uses Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. as the production facility.

Foundation Cigars owner Nick Melillo is constantly promoting Connecticut. He grew up in Connecticut, overlooking tobacco plantations. These sizes are a tribute to the old days. Back then, a lot of the cigar manufacturers in Connecticut made perfectos.

Tabernacle

With the two new perfectos, the line contains 8 vitolas. The other vitolas are a 7×40 Lancero and a 7×54 Doble Corona. There is a classic 6×52 Toro and a 5×50 Robusto. Then there are a 5 ¼ x46 Corona and a 4 ½ x52 Torpedo.

Melillo’s nickname is Chief of the Broadleaf. The Tabernacle line is a line that showcases his passion for Connecticut Broadleaf. The filler comes from Jamastran, Honduras, and Jalapa and Esteli, Nicaragua. Some of the filler is grown by A.J. Fernandez at his famous La Soledad farm.

Dutch brand

Foundation Cigars isn’t the only company that uses David & Goliath as the name for cigars. The Dutch company J. van Horssen is selling machine-made shortfillers under the same name as well as roll-your-own tobacco. These tobacco products are available on the Dutch market for years. J. van Horssen BV is the parent company of Longfiller Company.

Longfiller Company is the largest independent cigar distributor in The Netherlands. The four Van Dalen Cigars locations and Cigaragua are all part of the same company. Sasja van Horssen is the owner of J. van Horssen.

  1. Do you know if these can be bought anywhere in Europe? You mentioned Sasja was bringing Charter Oak a few years ago in your post, but I don’t think I have seen that yet.

    1. maybe in Norway, but I am not sure.

Yeah, I know Sasja said he was bringing them in but nothing ever happened.
