Author: Inspector Y
Tobacconist of Greenwich owner Michael Cafagno hosted a Fuente night with Carlos Fuente Jr. to raise money for the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation at the Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich. The night, dubbed “An Opus Xodus” included a surf & turf dinner, artisanal cocktails, an Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Robusto, OpusX Double Corona, Casa Fuente Lancero and a ForbiddenX Cigar in a bottle. This all while Frankie Sands and his band played Frank Sinatra covers.
After Cafagno introduced Carlito Fuente, Fuente explained the family history and the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation including a video of what the foundation does in the Dominican Republic and a video of the Chateau de La Fuente.
The dinner and auction raised money for the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, which was shown in a video played for the sold-out crowd.
After the dinner it was time to start the auction of some rare items, such as a Fuente Fuente OpusX PerfeXion A from Carlito’s personal humidor that was sold for $5,500, a round of gold at Sebonack in the Hamptons, a trip to the Dominican Republic with a visit to the Fuente factory, a Purple Rain humidor and a bundle of 10 OpusX 20th Anniversary Lanceros, a vitola that is not for sale. That bundle went for $25,000. In the end, the auction plus ticket proceeds raised $335,000 for the charity.
“I’m just overwhelmed by the event,” says Fuente Jr. “The amount of money that was raised was just incredible.” Cafagno was also blown away. “We had a crazy goal today,” he says. “Cigar Family Charitable Foundation is an amazing charity.”
Cafagno and Fuente had a goodbye gift for all the attending cigar aficionados, a box of 10 special OpusX Oscuro Maduro Double Coronas, packed in bright, orange boxes. Neither the cigars nor that box had ever been made before. “We wanted everyone who attended to have a very special cigar to commemorate the evening,” says Fuente Jr. “The orange box was made exclusively for this event and has never been sold or seen before.”
