NewsTim Ozgener Expands Pi Synesthesia Line with New ‘Brown’ Cigar

Tim Ozgener is adding a new blend to his Pi Synesthesia line of cigars, introducing the latest creation, Pi Synesthesia Brown. The innovative cigar line, which takes inspiration from the mathematical expression of colour, will soon unveil this new blend at the upcoming Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) meeting in Aruba.
While the colour brown is a staple in the cigar world, given that most cigars sport some shade of a brown wrapper, the Pi Synesthesia Brown cigar stands out with its Mexican San Andrés wrapper, which often appears closer to black than brown. However, Tim Ozgener, the owner of OZ Family Cigars, explains that this particular wrapper has more of a milk chocolate hue, owing to its low to mid-priming harvest. “We tinkered with the wrapper quite a lot. It has more of a milk chocolate look,” Ozgener said.
The rest of the blend consists of a Honduran binder made from Corojo ’99 seed and a filler composed entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco. As for the strength, Ozgener describes the cigar as medium-bodied, designed to evoke flavours associated with brown tones. “The idea is for it to be reminiscent of the brown flavours that coat the palate more, like chocolate, cocoa, coffee,” he said.
Made in the Dominican Republic by legendary cigar maker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo at his Casa Carrillo factory, the Pi Synesthesia Brown cigar will come in a single size, measuring 6 inches by 52 ring gauge, and will be packed in boxes of 12. The suggested retail price is $15.50 per cigar.
The Pi Synesthesia line was inspired by Ozgener’s late father, Cano, a cigarmaker and artist who was intrigued by the concept of assigning colours to numbers. Cano created a painting in 2015 reflecting this idea, and the cigar line is a tribute to his vision. The Pi Synesthesia Yellow debuted in 2022, followed by Pi Synesthesia Red in 2023, with Brown being the latest addition to this artistic and mathematical exploration of cigars.
