The small boutique brand from the Dominican Republic went dorment after 2018 due to pending legislation in the United States. But brand owner Victor Nicolas is bringing the brand back, with the help of Kyle Gellis of Warped Cigars who act as a consultant. Gellis will also be distributing the cigars with his distribution company Venture 1492.

“We started working mid-2021 on a relaunch of the brand,” says Nicolás. For the Chogüí Dos77 Corojo he uses a Dominican Sun Grown Corojo wrapper and other tobaccos from the famous grower Leo Reyes. Manufactura Rivas is making the cigars.

The new Chogüí is not the same blend. The brand now incorporates some medio tiempo from Piloto Cubano tobacco. The first release is a 5½x50 Robusto in 20 count boxes.

This is not the same blend as the original. According to Nicolás, there’s a leaf of medio tiempo tobacco in the filler from a Piloto Cubano varietal. The Corojo wrapper is also new, as is some Havana Vuelta Arriba (HVA), and Nicolás considers these changes to be improvements to his previous cigar.
