Southern Draw Cigars has announced via social media that its Morning Glory and Evening Primrose lines will soon feature new sizes and updated packaging.

Both lines will introduce three new sizes, based on retailer demand for popular vitolas:

  • Morning Glory / Evening Primrose Robusto (5 1/2 x 54)
  • Morning Glory / Evening Primrose Toro (6 x 52)
  • Morning Glory / Evening Primrose Gordo (6 1/2 x 60)

“The final sizes were chosen carefully, keeping affordability in mind with 20-count boxes and best-selling formats, as requested by our retail partners,” the company stated.

Pricing details are yet to be announced, but Robert Holt, founder of Southern Draw, confirmed it will align with the company’s core blends. These changes will also introduce a unified pricing model across Southern Draw’s core lines.

In addition to the new sizes, the cigars will now come in 20-count boxes, replacing the previous 10-count packaging, with updated designs.

The Morning Glory line was introduced in October 2022, debuting at Cigars International in two limited sizes before expanding to a wider release in 2023, which included:

  • Morning Glory Rothschild (4 3/4 x 50)
  • Morning Glory Short Churchill (6 1/2 x 48)
  • Morning Glory Diadema (6 3/4 x 52)

The blend features a Connecticut-grown claro wrapper, Nicaraguan habano hybrid binder, and a Nicaraguan corojo 99 and criollo 98 filler. The company describes the flavour as a blend of subtle toastiness and nutty elegance, delivering a smooth, medium intensity.

As with most Southern Draw cigars, Morning Glory is named after a flowering plant. The morning glory blooms in the early hours and closes by mid-afternoon, symbolizing new beginnings, which the company likens to each new cigar.

Evening Primrose, launched later in 2022, follows a similar path with its initial debut at Cigars International before becoming widely available in 2023. Its blend uses a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and a filler of Honduran, Nicaraguan, and U.S. ligero tobaccos. Known for its robust, flavour-forward profile, the Evening Primrose is intended to balance the demand for Southern Draw’s Jacobs Ladder blend.

It debuted in three box-pressed sizes:

  • Evening Primrose Rothschild (4 3/4 x 50)
  • Evening Primrose Short Churchill (6 1/2 x 48)
  • Evening Primrose Diadema (6 3/4 x 52)

The Evening Primrose, named after a flower that blooms at dusk and stays open until dawn, mirrors the brand’s emphasis on distinct, time-themed blends.

While the new sizes will be widely available, the original formats will remain as exclusives for retailers who place minimum orders. The updated lines are set to ship in Q4 of 2024, with no price increases expected through 2025. Additionally, the Manzanita line will return in late 2025 with new packaging and a lower MSRP.
