Procigar comes back in 2022. After the cancellation of the Procigar Festival in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the association of Dominican Cigar Manufacturers is preparing for the 2022 edition of the second oldest cigar festival in the world.
The Dominican cigar festival will take place in Santiago de Los Cabelleros, the epicenter of the Dominican Cigar industry from 22 to 25 February next year. Registration for the festival is now open.Â
Changes
The year off meant that the organization had time to evaluate the previous years and make some changes. One of the changes is that it’s no longer an option to travel to La Romana. For the last few years, it was an option to visit La Romana to visit Tabacalera de Garcia. That is the largest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic. The 3 night La Romana prelude to the Procigar Festival took place at the Casa de Campo resort. But during the evaluation, Procigar found that the majority of the festival-goers were not interested in the La Romana leg of the festivities.Â
There won’t be an alternative prelude. The event will start on Tuesday the 22nd with a cocktail party. Then it’s two days of visits to cigar factories, tobacco plantations, blending sessions, and seminars about cigar making. There will still be plenty of time to meet and talk to manufacturers. Every night there will be official dinners. The ironing white party at the Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración is the highlight of the festival.Â
The last day includes a field day, where attendees get the chance to talk to and spend time with manufacturers. Plus there is the farewell gala dinner with the annual auction of cigars and art, including one-of-a-kind humidors, for charity.
