Padilla introduces a new cigar. Just two weeks after appointing Todd Vance as director of sales, Ernesto Padilla is releasing a new cigar. The new line is named Padilla Poetica and is made in Nicaragua at Tabacalera A.J. Fernandez.

The line comes in three sizes. Those are a 5×52 Robusto, 6×52 Toro, and a 6×60 Gordo. The cigars are made from Nicaraguan fillers and binder. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Habano. The Poetica will come with quotes from a poem written by Ernesto’s father, Humberto Padilla. Padilla also revealed that he is working on a strong Connecticut version of the Poetica.

Padilla 8 & 11

The Padilla 8 & 11 is making a comeback again. The first Padilla 8 & 11 was launched in 2005. It was made at the El Rey de Los Habanos factory, the first American factory for the Garcia family. That small factory was located on the corner of 8th & 11th in Miami’s Little Havana.

The cigar production then moved to Padilla’s short-lived factory in Miami under the name Padilla Miami. When the factory was closed down, the cigar production moved to Honduras where Raices Cubanas manufactured the Padilla Miami for Padilla. A few years later, the production moved back to Miami, to El Titan de Bronze.

The cigar was re-released four years ago. The name changed to Padilla Miami 8 & 11 and was produced by El Titan de Bronze. To add to the confusion, the cigar production went back to Raices Cubana again. And now El Titan de Bronze will be producing the Padilla 8 & 11 in a single 6×52 Toro size.

The blend

The blend has changed with every factory move. All the tobaccos for the latest version of the Padilla 8 & 11 come from Aganorsa. That’s a throwback to the original version, as Aganorsa was providing the Garcia family with all the tobacco when they started their factory in Miami.

Eduardo Fernandez is the owner of Aganorsa and he was the partner of Don Pepin Garcia in the small El Rey de Los Habanos factory in Miami from where the Garcia family started their empire. That partnership ended when the new factory of My Father Cigars in Esteli, Nicaragua was opened. The El Rey de Los Habanos name is still used for the rolling operation that the Garcia’s have at their Miami based headquarters.
