A few days ago, we wrote about the tax hike in New Zealand, but just in time distributor Canteros managed to get a few shipments in under the old tax tariffs. Including in the shipment are some cigars that are brand new for the Kiwi cigar aficionados.

Joya de Nicaragua isn’t new to New Zealand, but in the shipment that arrived yesterday, there are a few blends that are new. The Cinco Decadas, the limited edition to celebrate the 50th year of Joya de Nicaragua was part of the shipment. It also included the new Joya Silver line.

The Joya Silver line is made from Nicaraguan filler, a Mexican San Andres binder and a Habano wrapper from Ecuador. There are four vitolas, a 5×50 robusto, 5¼x42 corona, 6×52 toro, and a 6¼x46 ultra.

The Cinco Decadas blend has not been disclosed by Joya, except that they used some very special Nicaraguan tobacco for the cigar, and that it’s a Nicaraguan puro. Only two vitolas have been made, a 7×50 general and a 6×54 diadema. The last one scored a 97 rating in a major magazine. The sizes are picked because those were the two most popular vitolas in the early days of Joya de Nicaragua.
