New Foundation and Espinosa cigars for New Zealand. Canteros, the only distributor for new world cigars in the country, confirmed that. The distributor said that a shipment containing Charter Oak Connecticut Broadleaf and Laranja Escuro is expected soon.

Charter Oak

Foundation is the company of the chief of the broadleaf, Nick Melillo. And he created the Charter Oak Connecticut Broadleaf with tobacco from Nicaragua and the United States. Melillo, or Nick R Agua as another nickname is he uses, hails from the Connecticut River Valley. And he loves to use tobacco from his native Connecticut. So for the Charter Oak Connecticut Broadleaf, he uses a wrapper from that area. Add a Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan fillers, there is the Charter Oak. Canteros only carries one size, the 4¼x50 Rothschild.

Laranja Escuro

The Laranja Escuro is the follow-up or extension of the Laranja. That blend was released little over five years ago by Espinosa Cigars. The name comes from the orange glow of the Brazilian wrapper. So picking the Brazilian word for ‘dark’ as the new name is in line with the original.

The Laranja Escuro has the same filler and binder as the original Laranja. It’s all Nicaraguan. Only the wrapper is different, although both are Brazilian. For the Laranja Escuro, Espinosa picked a dark Mata Fina wrapper. The cigars are not rolled at Espinosa’s own factory, La Zona. A.J. Fernandez produces the Laranja Escuro for Espinosa Cigars.

There are three sizes available, and all three are coming to New Zealand. All three sizes are packed in ten-count boxes. There is a 6×42 Corona Gorda, a 5½x54 Robusto Extra, and finally a 6×52 Toro. Canteros owner Grant Ovenden told us that the new arrivals will be on the website as soon as customs clears the shipment.
