Have you ever contemplated the profound impact a cigar’s wrapper leaf can have on its flavour profile? The CAO FASA, the latest addition to the CAO brand by General Cigar Co., delves into this intriguing question. Now available on store shelves, the CAO FASA presents the same blend in two distinct wrappers, inviting enthusiasts to explore and discern the nuances for themselves.

The CAO FASA introduces two lines: Sola, meaning “day,” and Noche, meaning “night.” Sola is meticulously crafted at the HATSA factory in Honduras, boasting a wrapper of Honduran Olancho San Agustin. Conversely, Noche is expertly produced at STG Estelí in Nicaragua, enveloped in a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper. The contrasting effects of these wrapper leaves, as highlighted by Ed Lahmann, senior brand manager at CAO, are striking. Lahmann aptly describes the experience, stating, “CAO FASA Sol and CAO FASA Noche could not be more alike, yet they could not be more different. They’re literally like night and day.”

Internally, both versions feature an identical blend composition: a Cameroon binder and fillers sourced from the Dominican Republic, alongside tobaccos from three distinct regions in Nicaragua—Jalapa, Estelí, and Condega.

Presented in 24-count boxes, both lines offer the same two formats: Toro, measuring 6 inches by 50 ring gauge ($6.99), and Gigante, measuring 6 by 60 ($7.99). In addition to the wrapper differentiation, the Sol line distinguishes itself with red packaging, while the Noche line features bands and boxes in white.

General Cigar hints that one of the cigars boasts a fuller-bodied profile compared to the other. However, the ultimate judgment on which is stronger rests in the hands of the smoker—an invitation to embark on a sensory journey and explore the intricacies of these meticulously crafted cigars first-hand.
