News, SpecialsMontecristo Carmen Cigar Now Available in Affordable 10-Count Boxes
Author: Inspector X
The Montecristo Carmen, a highly sought-after Cuban cigar, was once an elusive luxury, available only through the purchase of an extravagant humidor. When it was first introduced exclusively for the Spanish market two years ago, cigar enthusiasts had to invest in a full humidor containing 100 cigars, with a hefty price tag of 30,000 euros (approximately $33,000).
This exclusivity made the Montecristo Carmen a rare gem, accessible only to the most dedicated and affluent cigar connoisseurs. However, times have changed, and this summer, the Spanish Habanos distributor Tabacalera S.L.U. has made this cigar more attainable for a broader audience by releasing it in a more manageable and affordable format.
The new 10-count box of Montecristo Carmen offers a more accessible option for those who wish to experience this unique cigar. Priced at 1,000 euros per box (roughly $1,100 or $110 per cigar), the new packaging is significantly less expensive than the original offering. While the presentation may lack the opulence of the S.T. Dupont humidors that accompanied the initial release, the quality and exclusivity of the cigars remain intact. The Carmen, with its distinctive size and connection to Spanish culture, continues to be a prized addition to the Montecristo portfolio.
Measuring 7 1/8 inches by 49 ring gauge, the Carmen is a rare format known as Paco in Cuban cigar factories. This size is not commonly produced, making it a standout in the Montecristo line. The cigar’s name, Carmen, pays homage to Bizet’s famous opera, further cementing its cultural ties to Spain.
This release also celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Royal Tobacco Factory of Seville, a historic institution considered to be Europe’s first tobacco factory and now part of the University of Seville. The connection to such a storied location adds another layer of prestige to the Montecristo Carmen.
Despite the increased accessibility, the Montecristo Carmen remains a limited edition item. Only 2,500 numbered boxes have been released, ensuring that the cigar maintains its exclusivity and appeal among collectors and aficionados. The release of the Montecristo Carmen in a 10-count box also reflects a growing trend in the cigar industry, where premium cigars, whether Cuban or otherwise, are increasingly being priced at $100 or more. This trend highlights the enduring appeal of luxury cigars, even as they become more accessible to a wider audience.
In conclusion, the Montecristo Carmen has transitioned from an almost unattainable luxury to a more accessible yet still exclusive cigar. While the price remains high, the opportunity to own a piece of this unique offering has expanded, allowing more cigar enthusiasts to indulge in its rich flavour and cultural significance.
