La Union: A Special Commemoration of 20 Years in the Cigar Industry by My Father Cigars and Tatuaje
Twenty years ago, when Don Pepin Garcia and his children Jaime and Janny, started making cigars in a little factory in Miami, their first private label client was Pete Johnson and his brand new brand Tatuaje. And from that day forward, the two companies have been intertwined. They work together on manufacturing, warehousing and distribution. Johnson even married Janny Garcia. All but one Tatuaje Cigars in the last twenty years have been made by My Father Cigars, either in their little factory in Miami or in one of their two factories in Nicaragua.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of My Father Cigars, the 20th anniversary of Tatuaje and the 20th anniversary of their working relationship, the two companies worked on a limited edition project. The project consists of two different humidors, either in black or in red, called La Union. Each humidor will come with forty cigars. Twenty of the cigars are blended by the Garcia family for Pete Johnson, the other twenty cigars are blended by Johnson for the Garcia family. The blends in the black and the red humidor are different, so Johnson blended two cigars for the Garcia’s and vice versa.
The black humidor contains a cigar with a Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper over Nicaraguan filler and binder, blended by Johnson. The Garcia’s went for an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over Nicaraguan tobacco for Johnson. The red humidor contains a cigar with a Sumatra wrapper of undisclosed origin over Nicaraguan filler and binder blended by Johnson, and a cigar with a broadleaf wrapper of undisclosed origin over Nicaraguan tobaccos blended by Don Pepin and Jaime Garcia. All the Nicaraguan tobacco is grown by the Garcia family. The cigars are 7 ¼ x50 with a 109-style bullet head. This size is called the Promintente Especial. Each humidor comes with a Xikar Xi1 Perfect Cut cutter as well.
There will be 1500 humidors of each colour available, of which 1200 remain in the United States and 300 are for international accounts. The black humidor is expected early 2024, while the red will follow later.
