Habanos releases three more jars. In collaboration with Pacific Cigar Company, the official Habanos distributor for Asia and Oceania. Three jars to commemorate 60 years of friendship and diplomatic relations between four communist countries. Cuba on one side, China, Vietnam, and Cambodia on the other side. Cambodia is not communist anymore, but a ‘relatively authoritarian coalition via a superficial democracy’ according to Human Rights Watch. Prime Minister Hun Sen is a former Khmer Rouge member. Khmer Rouge is a communist regime responsible for millions of death during their reign from the mid to the late 1970s.

Ministry of Cigars - Habanos releases three more jars

Diplomatic relations

Due to the embargo and the same ideology, Cuba has strong ties to China, Vietnam, and Cambodia. To commemorate that 60 years of friendship, Habanos releases three jars. One for each country. It’s the second time that Habanos is creating a ceramic jar for China. The first jar is the 2011 release of the Bolivar Distinguido to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic ties.

This year Habanos and Pacific Cigar Company are releasing three jars, 1000 of each. There are 25 cigars in each jar. And the cigars are different for each country. The Bolivar Distinguido release was double the number of jars, 2010 to be precise.

The cigars

The commemorative jar for Cuban Chinese diplomatic relations comes with 25 Montecristo Edmundo. This is a 53/8×52 Robusto. It is on the market since 2004. It is not the first time that Montecristo Edmundo is used in a jar. In 2010, Habanos used the Montecristo Edmundo for a jar for Western Europe.

The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2 represents the Cuban Cambodian relationship. This cigar is a classic. It exists longer than the communist regime in Cuba. Every smoker of Cuban cigars has smoked this 4⅞x50 cigar classic.

The Partagas Serie D No 4 is chosen to commemorate the ties between Vietnam and Cuba. Cuba is the oldest ally of Vietnam in the Western Hemisphere. Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to have a diplomatic bond with Vietnam. The Partagas Serie D No.4 is the same vitola as the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2 but with a different blend. It is a 1975 release and one of the most popular Cuban cigars in history.

For the last few months, we have been chasing Pacific Cigar Company for more details about this project. Even though promises were made, PCC has not provided any information nor photos.
