NewsFarewell and New Beginnings: Scott Pearce’s Transition from PCA to CAA
Author: Inspector X
Scott Pearce, who has steered the helm of the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) as executive director since 2018, is bidding adieu to embark on a new journey as the president of the Cigar Association of America (CAA).
Expressing his sentiments, Pearce conveyed, “I’m immensely proud and honoured for the opportunity to have collaborated with the exceptional staff and boards of PCA over the past six years, and to witness our collective accomplishments. I eagerly anticipate the next chapter, working within the cigar industry to champion and advocate for the remarkable companies and individuals that comprise this vibrant sector.”
Pearce’s departure from PCA is scheduled for May, marking the culmination of his tenure. According to a statement released by PCA, his farewell day is set for May 24, while the CAA’s statement indicates May 21 as his final day with PCA. Both announcements align on his commencement date with CAA, slated for May 28.
The divergence in roles between PCA and CAA underscores their distinct positions within the cigar industry. PCA serves as the voice for premium cigar retailers, focusing on handmade products, and orchestrates the premier trade show in the American cigar landscape. On the other hand, CAA operates as an umbrella organization for the entire cigar spectrum, with its core constituency comprising companies engaged in machine-made cigar production. Notably, both entities were integral to the cigar industry’s legal battle against FDA regulations, alongside the Cigar Rights of America.
In the wake of Pearce’s departure, PCA has appointed Joshua Habursky, currently serving as deputy executive director, as the interim executive director. This transition period reflects PCA’s commitment to ensuring continuity and effective leadership during this transformative phase.
