The much-anticipated fifth addition to Espinosa Premium Cigars‘ Las 6 Provincias series, named ZDT, is now hitting the shelves of retailers. This installment pays homage to the province of Pinar del Río on the western end of the Cuban island and carries the acronym Zona de Tabaco, a nod to Pinar del Río being the province renowned for cultivating premium cigar tobacco in Cuba. Despite the homage, the blend is entirely Nicaraguan, featuring a Nicaraguan corojo wrapper paired with a Nicaraguan binder and fillers. The ZDT is presented in a 6 1/2 x 48 short Churchill vitola and is being meticulously crafted at the San Lotano Factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua.

Staying true to the Las 6 Provincias tradition, the packaging of the ZDT is distinctive, eschewing the conventional cigar box for a ceramic jar adorned with artwork by Edin Gutierrez. Gutierrez’s artistic renderings vividly depict the cigar-making process, adding a layer of aesthetic appeal to the overall presentation.

Erik Espinosa, expressing his enthusiasm for the project, described it as a passion project for him, his son, and the entire team, emphasizing the creative journey they embarked on from the project’s inception. The ZDT release is met with admiration, with Erik Espinosa expressing his sentiment, stating, “This year’s project is simply beautiful.”

The Las 6 Provincias line was introduced in 2018 by Espinosa Premium Cigars as a unique tribute to the original six provinces of Cuba through a combination of art and cigars. Prior releases in the series honored the provinces of La Habana, Matanzas, Las Villas, and Camagüey. With the arrival of ZDT celebrating Pinar del Río, the series appears poised to complete its homage to the six provinces.

The Las 6 Provincias ZDT is available at a price of $18 per cigar and $360 for the 20-count ceramic jar. Production quantities seem to be flexible, with Hector J. Alfonso, the director of operations for Espinosa Premium Cigars, indicating that the company did not specify a set number upon the announcement. These cigars were showcased as part of the company’s new releases at the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show in July.
