The Eladio Diaz 70 Aniversario, initially designated for the European market as a limited edition, is now making its way to U.S. retailers following a distribution agreement with Arango Cigar Co. This significant development enables American enthusiasts to experience the craftsmanship and unique blend of this special cigar, originally showcased at the InterTabac 2023 in Dortmund, Germany.
Crafted as a 7 x 52 Churchill Extra vitola, the Eladio Diaz 70 Aniversario boasts a blend comprising seven distinct tobaccos. The Ecuadorian wrapper, Mexican binder, and Dominican Republic fillers contribute to its rich and complex profile. Priced at $19.95 per cigar in the U.S., this limited edition offering is available in boxes of 14 cigars, with a total production of 1,400 boxes produced at Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera in the Dominican Republic. Notably, 300 of these boxes are allocated for the U.S. market.
The decision to extend the availability of the Eladio Diaz 70 Aniversario to the U.S. market reflects a change of heart by the Diaz and Kopp families, recognizing the significance of the American cigar market. The Kopp family operates Kopp Tobaccos GmbH & Co., the European distributor of the cigar.
The numeral “70” in the cigar’s name is symbolic, representing more than Eladio Diaz’s 70th birthday celebrated on May 28. It cleverly incorporates the number seven, acknowledging his introduction to the tobacco industry at the age of seven and marking 63 years of working with tobacco. The connection is highlighted by the equation 7 x 9 = 63. Additionally, the number 14 holds significance, as it marks seven years since Diaz suffered a stroke on Nov. 14, 2016.
Eladio Diaz, renowned for his career at Davidoff, played a pivotal role in overseeing cigarmaking as the production chief of Davidoff’s Dominican operation. His birthday cigars, initially crafted for personal enjoyment and later shared with friends and family, gained widespread acclaim for their sought-after quality. Following more than three decades at Davidoff, Diaz and his family embarked on a new venture, establishing Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera in late 2021.
While initially focused on private-label cigars, Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera is expanding its offerings with the Eladio Diaz 70 Aniversario and plans for a regular production line expected to hit U.S. stores later this year. This signifies a new chapter for Diaz and his family, affirming their commitment to delivering exceptional cigars to the market.
