E.P. Carrillo is releasing a Pledge. Its the new line by the legendary cigar maker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo hailing from his La Alianza factory in the Dominican Republic. And the name? That one is chosen by the visitors of Cigar Aficionado’s Big Smoke Las Vegas in 2019.

At the E.P. Carrillo booth, the Big Smoke attendees received a ballot with 3 choices. Bequest, Pledge, and Prequel. The name with the most votes would be the name of the new EPC line. The follow up to the La Historia and Encore lines by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. Pledge received the most votes, so that is the name for the new line.

The Pledge

While the initial release of the cigars was planned for March, it was delayed. The cause of the delay is the covid-19 pandemic. It shut down the production and distribution channels. The release date for the United States is now slated for August, with a limited number of retailers receiving the cigars. The limitation of points of sales is due to the shut down of the factory.

For now, only two sizes are announced. Those are a box-pressed 5×52 Robusto and a box-pressed 6×52 Toro. More sizes will follow the company stated. All in the same blend with Nicaraguan filler, Ecuadorian binder, and a Connecticut grown Habano seed wrapper.

“With each sample of the six different blends for Pledge I worked on, I asked myself, ‘Is this cigar worthy to follow La Historia and Encore?” said Perez-Carrillo in a press release. “And I was very pleased when I found the one.”

When the cigars are available for international distribution is unclear at the moment.
