Since its debut in 2007, Drew Estate’s Liga Privada has been a significant hit, garnering a dedicated following due to its bold and robust flavour profile. These cigars are in high demand, making them difficult to find, especially outside the United States.

This scarcity in international markets led Drew Estate to introduce the Liga Privada 10 Selección de Mercado, a special version designed exclusively for sale overseas. Recently, Drew Estate has expanded this international line with the addition of a new size aimed at highlighting the cigar’s wrapper leaf.

The latest addition, Liga Privada 10 Selección de Mercado Corona Viva, made its debut last week at a trade show in the United Kingdom. Jonathan Drew describes the blend of this new size as “aggressive, but balanced.” The Corona Viva measures six inches in length with a 46-ring gauge, making it the fourth size in the Selección de Mercado line, which already includes Toro, Robusto, and Corona Doble. Like its predecessors, the Corona Viva features an uncut foot and a twisted, ornate head, characteristics that add to its distinct appeal.

Drew Estate emphasizes that the relatively slender size of the Corona Viva enhances the flavour delivery of the wrapper, which is a Criollo leaf sourced from Connecticut. Complementing this wrapper, the binder comes from Mexico’s renowned San Andrés Valley, while the filler consists of a carefully selected blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos. This meticulous combination is packaged in boxes of 10 cigars. As of now, the pricing for the Corona Viva has not been disclosed.

The Liga Privada brand’s international expansion reflects a broader trend in the cigar industry. Years ago, non-Cuban cigars were a rarity outside the United States, but today, there is a growing global interest in premium cigars from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras. In Europe, these cigars are often referred to as New World Cigars. This increasing demand signifies a shift in the preferences of cigar enthusiasts worldwide, who are now more open to exploring diverse cigar offerings beyond the traditional Cuban varieties.
