Davidoff releases the year of the rat. For the 8th time, Davidoff releases a limited edition based on the Chinese zodiac calendar. And 2020 is the year of the rat. The limited-edition does not stop with a cigar. Davidoff is also releasing a limited edition Year of the Rat pipe tobacco. And a year of the rat pipe, pipe pouch, and a cigar case.

The cigar

The Davidoff Year of the Rat cigar is a limited edition, with 10.000 boxes being released globally. A box holds ten cigars, which is an odd number when you look at Chinese culture. The number 8 stands for luck and prosperity, so a box of eight would have been fitting. The red-colored box and the golden lettering fit the Chinese theme though. At Chinese New Year, everybody is wearing red-colored clothing, preferably new for good luck. The cigar is a toro size, 6×52. For the filler, the blenders at Davidoff looked to Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. There’s Viso from Esteli and Condega, and Piloto Viso and Seco from the Dominican Republic, mixed with San Vicente Mejorado Viso. The binder comes from Nicaragua and the wrapper is an Ecuadorian Habano.

To complement the cigar, Davidoff is releasing a limited edition cigar case as well. The company had 250 two-finger cases made in Spain from the finest cow leather. It’s adjustable in length so it can hold two cigars with the maximum size of 8¼x60. This hazelnut colored cigar case keeps your cigars humidified for ten days. And it’s engraved with a Davidoff year of the rat logo.

The pipe and pipe tobacco

Davidoff is also releasing a Year of the Rat pipe and pipe tobacco. The pipe is a bent billiard shaped pipe. It’s handmade in Italy from briarwood. The draught home is 9 mm. It has a sterling silver ring with the year of the rat pattern. Only 70 pipes have been made. There’s also a pipe pouch, limited to 200 pieces. It’s also made in Italy, from calf Nappa leather. This accessory also has the year of the rat logo. It’s hand-made of Italian calf Nappa and bovine suede leather in a combination of grey & russet colors.

The pipe tobacco comes in red tins of 100 grams. The blend is influenced by Asian flavors. It’s a blend consisting of Black Cavendish and Bride Cut Virginia in combination with Dark Fired Kentucky from Indonesia, rose leaves and notes of lychee. According to the blenders, it’s balanced and complex, with flavors of dry fruit, cream, and lychee as well as floral notes from the rose leaves.

The cigars, pipe tobacco and accessories will be shipped to Davidoff appointed merchants worldwide next month.
