NewsDaniel Marshall Recreates Historic Tiffany & Co. Humidor for Palm Beach’s Flagler Museum
Author: Inspector X
When the esteemed 120-year-old National Historic Landmark, the Palm Beach Henry Flagler Museum, embarked on the mission to recreate a unique Tiffany & Co Humidor once owned by the late industrialist Henry Flagler, they knew precisely who to call. Daniel Marshall, renowned for his exceptional craftsmanship in the world of humidors, was the chosen artisan for this prestigious undertaking.
Daniel Marshall, coincidentally in Florida at the time, personally examined the original artifact at the museum before returning to California to meticulously recreate the cherished humidor. The original piece was a gift to Flagler from the New York Yacht Club, expressing gratitude for the use of his yacht, Alicia, during the 1895 America’s Cup race—a testament to Flagler’s love for cigars and yachts.
Henry Flagler, known as the “Wizard of Florida,” shared a passion for cigars, sailing, and the sea with Daniel Marshall, aptly dubbed the “King of the Humidors” for his outstanding creations. Marshall, having started his journey with woodworking by building boats, found a serendipitous connection to this project.
The collaboration resulted in the recreation of Flagler’s personal Tiffany humidor, adorned with .925 sterling silver enamelled waving flags and a meticulously hand-cut engraved sterling plaque on the lid. Marshall, having worked with Tiffany & Co on special projects for two decades, saw this challenge as a fitting tribute to Flagler’s legacy.
With the addition of the Flagler Museum piece, Marshall now boasts humidors on permanent display in three museums, including the Smithsonian under three American Presidents and the Schwarzenegger Museum in Graz, Austria.
The Flagler Humidor x DM launch party, hosted by the Flagler Museum Palm Beach, took place on a yacht at the Palm Beach Boat Show. Subsequently, a “Daniel Marshall Campfire” was held at Raptis Rare Books, attended by over 125 guests, including Henry Flagler’s great-great-granddaughter and Museum President, Kelly Hopkins Flagler.
The limited edition of 10 recreations is available for $2,995, allowing enthusiasts to own a piece of history. The launch event featured DM Red Label cigars and the Daniel x Carlito 38th Anniversary Cigar, a collaboration between Marshall and Carlos Fuente Jr., paired with Florida handcrafted St. Augustine Distillery Bourbon.
Marshall, emphasizing the camaraderie created by his special Campfires, noted that cigars bring people together from different countries, backgrounds, and age groups. He reiterated his catchphrase, “We Don’t Smoke…We Taste,” emphasizing the enjoyment of the experience. Marshall’s ideology centres on creating a richness of character and generosity of spirit, uniting individuals across the globe.
