Cuervo y Sobrinos launching exclusive CSWC watch. The Swiss brand with Latin roots has been a sponsor for the Cigar Smoking World Championship for years. With unique, tobacco inspired watches as prices to the winners of the national qualifier tournaments as to the world champion. But now they are releasing a new line, Esplendido, with three watches. A golden watch for the world champion, silver watches for the winners of the pre-qualifiers. And a bronze version that’s for sale through the CSWC organization.

There are only 80 pieces of the Cuervo y Sobrinos CSWC cigars available. The Esplendido name is not the only connection to cigars. The leather strap mimics the structure of a tobacco leaf, with veins and all. It is made from Louisiana alligators. The watch also has the Cigar Smoking World Championship logo. And in the four corners of the watch, the time indicators are small cigars. The background of the dial is also a tobacco print.

Cuervo y Sobrinos history

The history of the Swiss brand with Cuban roots starts in 1882. Ramon Cuervo started an atelier and boutique in Havana. And in 1900, his nephew Armando Rio Cuervo joined the company. Cuervo y Sobrinos is the result of that, it literally means Cuervo & Nephews. The watchmaking brand got so popular that the family started to engrave their timepieces. In 20 years time, the company grew so much that they opened locations in Germany, France and the heart of Switzerland. And for every important visitor to Cuba, a trip to the Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique was a must. Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein visited, amongst many other great names during that era. But then the revolution took place, and everything changed. Cuervo y Sobrinos disappeared and the brand went silent.

But in 2002, Mr. Marzio Villa brought back history. He revived the dormant brand with high-quality watches made in Switzerland. The history with Latin America and Cuba, in particular, is represented in all the designs. Either in the name, such as Robusto, Churchill, Esplendido or in design. And in 2015, the brand became an official timekeeper and sponsor for the CSWC.

We reached out to Marko Bilic, founder of the CSWC, to find out about the prices and the points of sale for this unique timepiece. He said pricing will be revealed at the CSWC finale next weekend in Split, Croatia. The watches will be for sale at the CSWCworld website afterwards.
