Last year hurricane Ian destroyed a lot of the tobacco plantations and curing barns in the famous Pinar del Rio region of Cuba, the region where most of the famed Cuban tobacco is grown. The more than 1000 barns that were destroyed have not even been restored yet another natural disaster hit the region.

Heavy rainfall and storm damaged or destroyed 60 dryers early last month. Some have been partially destroyed, others have been completely destroyed according to the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party, Granma. The roofs of 13 curing barns were partially damaged in the municipality of Sandino, which is about 80 kilometers/50 miles from Pinar del Rio. 47 mechanical dryers, known as cura controlada, were also damaged whole five more curing barns and nine storage centers have collapsed.
