Crowned heads lands in Malaysia. The Nashville-based cigar company and the Kuala Lumpur-based cigar distributor Puros Asia have signed a distribution agreement. Earlier this week, the first shipment arrived at Kuala Lumpur airport. The shipment contains the Juarez and the relatively new Mil Dias. Both of these lines come from Tabacalera Pichardo.

Other cigars from Tabacalera Pichardo are also part of the shipment. These cigars are from ACE Prime, the company of Don Eradio Pichardo, Luciano Meirelles, and former NBA star Tiago Splitter. The cigars from ACE Prime that are now available in Malaysia are the Luciano the Dreamer and the four different Picardo series. Puros Asia operates from The Cabinet, a cigar lounge in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

The history of Crowned Heads

Crowned Heads was founded in 2011. The founders are former employees of CAO. CAO was based in Nashville but when Scandinavian Tobacco Group Bought the brand, they moved it to their base in Virginia. CAO executives Jon Huber and Mike Condor didn’t want to abandon Nashville and the CAO employees that were left unemployed. So they founded Crowned Heads.

Crowned Heads has cigars made in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. They use the facilities of My Father Cigars for Nicaraguan production. In the Dominican Republic, they work with Ernesto Perez Carrillo and his La Alianza factory. A lot of their lines are based on music. Four Kicks is based on a song from Kings of Leon. Headley Grange is based on Led Zeppelin’s when the levee breaks. That song was recorded in the Headley Grange studios. Jericho Hill is all based on Johnny Cash’s version of Cocaine Blues. And Tennessee waltz is pretty self-explanatory.

Ministry of Cigars - Crowned heads heading to Malaysia

Asian distribution

According to our sources, Malaysia is the first market where both ACE Prime and Crowned Heads are officially represented. Puros Asia is a distributor focussing on boutique brands. They also import Jas Sum Kral, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, Barreda Cigars, and Antigua Esteli. Puros Asia operates from The Cabinet in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

Jeremy Tay is the man behind Puros Asia. He’s a partner in the Cabinet, one of Kuala Lumpur’s best cigar lounges. And he’s a sucker for great boutique cigars. His goal is to work with other distributors in South East Asia to distribute the smaller boutique brands all over the region. Crowned Heads was high on his list, as he’s a big fan of the brand.
