Cohiba is returning in 2024 with a new addition to their highly sought-after Weller by Cohiba line, offering cigar enthusiasts a refined, bourbon-infused experience. This latest release from the famed Dominican cigar brand continues the tradition of pairing premium tobacco with the essence of exclusive bourbon. For the first time in the series, the 2024 edition features a USA Broadleaf binder that has been aged in barrels that once held Weller Full Proof bourbon, an elusive and collector-favourite spirit.
This marks the fourth instalment in the Weller by Cohiba series. Previous releases were aged in barrels from Weller’s 12 Year Bourbon, and the cigars were packaged in a distinctive black and gold design that reflected the bourbon’s refined branding. However, the 2024 version takes a unique step forward by utilizing barrels that once housed Weller Full Proof, a bolder and more potent bourbon known for its complex flavours. The ongoing collaboration between these two iconic brands underscores the deep connection between the crafts of cigar-making and bourbon distilling, creating an elevated product for aficionados of both worlds.
The Weller by Cohiba 2024 features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a USA Broadleaf binder that has been barrel-aged in Weller Full Proof bourbon barrels, and a blend of fillers from the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Hand-rolled in the Dominican Republic, the cigar is only available in a single Toro size (6 x 50), with an MSRP of $29.99 per cigar. The cigars come packaged in boxes of ten, each housed in blue and gold tubos designed to reflect the iconic look of Weller Full Proof bourbon. This premium packaging adds an extra touch of luxury to the already upscale smoking experience. The cigars are expected to ship to retailers at the end of September, just in time for aficionados to enjoy during the cooler months.
Weller Full Proof Bourbon, bottled at 114 proof, is a highly coveted bottle among whiskey collectors. Known for its rich notes of vanilla, dark cherries, and caramel, it stands out by forgoing the traditional chill filtration process, which helps preserve the bourbon’s natural flavours. This connection between bourbon and cigar allows for a truly unique and nuanced smoking experience.
Sean Williams, the brand ambassador for Cohiba, spoke proudly of the continued collaboration with Weller Bourbon. “Weller by Cohiba has become a staple in the Cohiba line-up and a great example of how the craftsmanship behind cigars and bourbon mirror one another. Going on this journey with a partner as esteemed as Weller Bourbon is a proud moment for Cohiba,” he said.
The Weller by Cohiba 2024 is a medium-to-full-bodied cigar that offers a rare, balanced smoking experience. It blends rich notes of bourbon with honey and cedar, providing a harmonious experience for cigar connoisseurs.
Weller Bourbon, a member of the award-winning Sazerac spirits family, is distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery. The bourbon line includes nine wheated varieties, making it one of the most celebrated collections in the spirits world. This collaboration between Cohiba and Weller continues to elevate both brands, marrying their traditions of quality and excellence.
