Author: Inspector X
Casdagli Cigars is excited to announce the expansion of its Brothers of the Sabre line with the addition of two new collections: the “Epicurist” line, honouring General Antoine Charles Louis de Lasalle of France, and the “Vater” line, paying tribute to Austrian Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz. These new cigars will make their debut at the InterTabac trade show in Dortmund, running from September 19-21, 2024. Following this launch, both lines will be made available globally to Casdagli Cigars’ distributors as part of their regular offerings.
The Brothers of the Sabre line, first introduced at the PCA 2023 trade show, is dedicated to generals from the Napoleonic Wars who were not only recognized for their military prowess but also for their passion for tobacco. Over the next four years, Casdagli plans to release two new lines each year, one honouring a general from France and the other representing a figure from the coalition forces of Great Britain, Prussia, Austria, and Russia. Each line will feature 2-3 vitolas, with thoughtfully crafted blends meant to reflect the unique characteristics of the historical figures they commemorate.
The “Epicurist” line is inspired by the daring French cavalry commander General Antoine Charles Louis de Lasalle, a man renowned for his charismatic leadership and love of tobacco. Often seen leading his troops with a pipe in hand, Lasalle was a fearless and bold leader. Blended by Hendrik Kelner Jr. at the Kelner Boutique Factory (KBF) in the Dominican Republic, the Epicurist line offers a refined smoking experience with its Dominican fillers, Dominican binder, and Claro Colorado Ecuadorian wrapper. The Figurado vitola delivers a creamy, nutty flavour with sweet undertones, while the Petit Robusto uses higher primings for a full-bodied, robust flavour, ideal for shorter smokes.
The “Vater” line pays homage to Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, one of Austria’s most respected military leaders, who played a key role in the Coalition’s victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Leipzig. Known affectionately as “Vater” by his troops, Radetzky’s blend is also crafted by Hendrik Kelner Jr. and features rare Zimbabwean tobacco combined with fillers from the USA and the Dominican Republic. The cigar delivers rich, complex notes of dark chocolate and espresso, with an Ecuadorian wrapper and Dominican binder enhancing the overall depth of flavour. The Petit Robusto showcases higher priming leaves for a stronger, richer smoke, while the Figurado offers an elegant and smooth experience.
Both the Epicurist and Vater lines share the same base leaves as their predecessors from 2023, but have been adjusted in terms of primings and blend percentages to match the distinct characteristics of each vitola. Jeremy Casdagli, founder of Casdagli Cigars, expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, stating: “With my love of both Napoleonic history and the premium tobacco world, this ongoing project brings me immense joy. From researching these great historical personalities and their passion for tobacco to crafting special vitolas and blends in their honour, it’s been an extraordinary journey.”
The cigars will be offered in two vitola sizes: the Figurado (47-gauge, 6.25 inches) and the Petit Robusto (52-gauge, 4 inches). Each vitola comes in 20-count natural cedar piano-top boxes. The MSRP for the Figurados is set at $21 per cigar, while the Petit Robustos will retail for $13.70. Both lines will be available for global distribution starting in mid-October 2024.
Blended by the renowned Hendrik Kelner Jr. of the famous Kelner family, these cigars continue to elevate the Brothers of the Sabre line, further cementing Casdagli Cigars’ commitment to craftsmanship and historical storytelling.
