Bespoke becomes Casdagli Cigars. The Bespoke cigar brand has been building quite a reputation for itself in the last few years. From a small regional brand to an almost worldwide available cigar.

The history of Bespoke is huge, even though the brand is still quite young. The Bespoke cigar brand was founded in 1997. But the history starts in the 1800s when the Casdagli family started trading tobacco, cotton, and breeding of Arabian horses.

The family history

Bespoke Cigars brand has been built on the rich family history of Casdaglis from the beginning. Traditional Line of cigars, that were the first ones to be launched under the Bespoke Cigars brand, is inspired by the lavish life led in Egypt by the Casdagli family in the early 1900s centered around Villa Casdagli. Therefore the drawings of Villa Casdaglis’ exterior and interior decorate the Traditional Line’s cigar band and boxes. The Basilica Line of cigars was created to honor the great patriarch of the Casdagli family who established the family Egyptian cotton business – Emmanuel Casdagli. His portrait adorns Basilica Line’s cigar band and soon to be launched new boxes. Therefore, when the need for change was in the air, it felt only natural to rename the brand Casdagli Cigars, according to Triina Casdagli in an email to us.

In the early 1900s, the family had a villa in Cairo. It explains the strong bond that Bespoke Cigars has with the middle east as the family has roots there. The Daughters of the wind line is actually based on an Arab poem.

In the years after the second world war, trade negotiations between the United Kingdom and Cuba about sugar turned to cigars. And yet another Casdagli family member was involved in those negotiations and became involved in the tobacco trade.

In 1997, Jeremy Casdagli met the Cuban torcedor, Carlos Valdez Mosquera. After his retirement from Habanos, he started making his own blends and vitolas. Those blends attracted Casdagli and together they formed Bespoke cigars. At first, the small scale production was exclusively sold on the London markets but the company grew slowly.

Nowadays you can find Bespoke cigars in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the United States. The brand can’t use the Bespoke name in the United States though, as Alec Bradley owns the trademark for the American market. Bespoke Cigars is known as Casdagli Cigars there. And soon everywhere else too.

The rebranding

Earlier this week, Casdagli explained that he would change the name from Bespoke Cigars to Casdagli Cigars in a statement on their website and in two videos on YouTube.

To celebrate our recent growth from a regional to a truly worldwide brand – our cigars can be found from California to Thailand – I wanted to reunite the Colossus of Rhodes with our family name. Therefore I took the decision to change our brand name from Bespoke Cigars to Casdagli Cigars.

Thus truly re-establishing the Casdagli name and the values both me and my company stand for: Delivering Luxury, Elegance, and Tradition.
All our cigars and boxes will gradually be exhibiting the new Casdagli Cigars brand name but will continue to show the mark of quality – Colossus of Rhodes within the gold diamond.
