Balmoral is releasing an Añejo XO Oscuro Lancero. The limited-edition for 2019 will be the Balmoral Añejo XO Oscuro Lancero FT (flag tail) Edicion Limitada in The Netherlands in the next few days. It is not the first time that Royal Agio picked a Lancero size as a limited edition for the Balmoral Añejo XO series. But it is the first time for the Oscuro version of the acclaimed brand.

Balmoral Añejo series

In 2013, Royal Agio Cigars introduced the first of the Balmoral Añejo series. It was the Balmoral Añejo 18 and was made with an 18-year-old wrapper. The cigar was a huge success all over Europe, before making it to the United States. But the 18-year-old wrapper didn’t last forever because of the scarcity. Royal Agio tweaked the blend and returned with the Balmoral Añejo XO. XO stands for ‘eXceptionally Old’. And for that line, Agio introduced a limited edition Añejo XO Lancero in 2016. Lancero is notoriously hard to sell in Europe, but this one flew off the shelves and received high ratings.

Agio then proceeded to make new blends for the Balmoral Añejo XO series. First came the Balmoral Añejo XO Oscuro. Made with a Mexican San Andres wrapper and a Dominican binder. The filler has Brazilian, Dominican, and Nicaraguan tobaccos. And that’s the blend used for the limited edition Balmoral Añejo XO Oscuro Lancero FT Edicion Limitada. It’s the first time that Royal Agio picked the Oscuro line for a limited edition.

The Balmoral Añejo Xo Connecticut was next. A Connecticut Shade wrapped version. The wrapper is real American grown Connecticut Shade. The binder is made of an unique Sumatra tobacco from 1999, grown in Ecuador. The filler exits of the authentic Pennsylvania 41, Brazil Mata Norte, and the Dominican Republic. At the last IPCPR show, Royal Agio showcased the latest addition to the Balmoral Añejo XO family, Balmoral Añejo XO Nicaragua. That cigar is only available in the United States for now. It’s made with a Sun-Grown Nicaraguan Habano wrapper. The binder is Brazilian and the filler is made from Dominican, Nicaraguan and Brazilian Mata Norte tobacco. The Brazilian tobacco used for all Balmoral Añejo series is Agio’s signature stalk-cut Mata Norte.

Intertabac release

The official launch of the cigar took place at the Intertabac trade show last week. But during the Tabakado Meet & Greet 2019, on September 15th, Royal Agio quietly released a few boxes of the Balmoral Añejo XO Oscuro Lancero FT Edicion Limitada. And Dutch retailers tried the cigar at a release event for tobacconists on September 17th. The cigars will be rolled out in The Netherlands in the next week.
