An excellent little cigar and a superb way to spend half to three quarters of an hour. The vitola possesses the classic Upmann profile.
Appearance : [rating:5/5]
H. Upmann Coronas Major is really a fine cigar and that fact that it comes as a tubo makes it highly portable for being on the go. The package looks classy too, so definitely 5/5 🙂
Construction : [rating:4/5]
Mine was hand-made, but it could have been machine-made just as well, since the draw was a little bit tight. However, this single fact didn’t spoil the pleasure.
Flavor : [rating:4.5/5]
The flavors of strong, very, very strong tobacco are the main ingredient, add to that freshly ground oily Italian espresso beans, then strip a vanilla stock and add the beans, then drizzle cream soda and honey, then you’re half way there. The real unmistakable treat is the classic H. Upmann must smell, anyone who has smoked a well aged Upmann knows what I mean.
Value : [rating:3/5]
These are not the most expensive Marevas out there, it’s possible to find better quality for a slightly higher price.
Overall Rating : [rating:overall/5]
The problem with this cigar is that you’re not always sure to find a good one – I heard that very often the draw is extremely tight which makes it difficult to smoke. However, if you manage to put your hands on the right one – you will certainly enjoy a great cigar.

Have just smoked a Coronas Major out of the new-style H. Upmann tube, good draw on that particular stick. Strong aroma as it emerged from the tube, with the ‘mustiness’ indeed noticeable, but a very pleasant smoke on the medium-mild side, and good longevity without trying for that. German banker-turned-cigar-maker Herman Upmann would be pleased with what his venture in 1840s Havana, continues to produce today.

Is this a real critic for the H. Upmann coronas? what are all the adjectives about the italian beans to describe the flavor… i have to tell that i am a huge H. Upmann smoker, and i never saw a cigar with “freshly ground oily Italian espresso beans”, it seems rubish to me

I love this one. Was in Cuba for a week and smoked one of these 6 days out of the 7. An excellent cigar and I thought the price was good for what it is. They come now in a newer style of tube that is slightly more attractive in my opinion, it looks like the magnum tube now, just smaller. A great smoke, good draw, good burn, great flavor. Should have bought more. So many great cigars, so little time…

First time I sampled this size (box date Aug 07) and I must say this is one of the finest cubans I have ever smoked. Construction and draw were flawless and the flavor was over the top. I can only imagine what these will be like after a nice stay in the humidor. In my humble opinion, the best mareva in the market right now.

That’s my favorite brand! However, Coronas Major is not the best Upmann.. I prefer Magnums.
