    Size : 5 x 48
    Wrapper : Habano Ecuador
    Filler : Nicaragua
    Binder : Nicaragua
    Hand-Made

Having found an article about an indoors smoking lounge not far from where I live, I decided to check out the place last Saturday. Among the cigars I brought with me was this great looking Tabacos El Triunfador by Tatuaje that I managed to put my hands on thanks to a great BOTL Timo from Finland that I met on r/cigars. If you remember, the original El Triunfador was only available in one size, was extremely hard to find and was a great smoke. The new line is significantly different: several vitolas are available, the cigars seem to be much easier to get and the flavors are supposed to be more “polished”.

    Appearance : [rating:4.5/5]
This slightly box-pressed cigar has a medium brown wrapper with several prominent veins. The triple cap is darker than the rest of the wrapper. Perfectly packed, the El Triunfador exhales a pleasant Cubanesque smell and is a pleasure to hold.

Two words: light & forget. After I carefully toasted the foot with my Z-plus, I was a bit surprised at first because there wasn’t a lot of smoke to be enjoyed. Fortunately, after a minute this beauty started producing clouds of white thick smoke. This was the beginning of a flawless cigar adventure. Great job on the construction!

    Flavor : [rating:4/5]
The El Triunfador looks great, smokes great, now all you want to know is how it tastes, right? I was expecting a Habano peppery introduction but the beginning reminds me of a maduro wrapper because of its sweetness and a distinctive sugary flavor. I am not a fan of this flavor profile and, to my satisfcation, the sweetness soon dissipated and left space for a solid cedary flavor with just a hint of spice. The flavors are very balanced and delicate, significantly different from what I was expecting from a Tatuaje but pleasant nonetheless. We’re in the mild to medium-bodied zone and we’re never going to leave it. The bouquet does not change much until the end of the smoke, with leather sneaking in in the last third. It should be clear from this description that the El Triunfador is not a flavor bomb, far from that, but these several basic flavors are so skillfully balanced that it never gets boring.

This cigar won’t burn a hole in your pocket, at $7 each I think it definitely deserves a try.

For some reason at one point it made me think of the Montecristo Open, an attempt to create a cigar ‘for the masses’. Tabacos El Triunfador may appear like it was specifically made for a more general audience than other Tatuaje releases; this cigar is really more refined although it doesn’t have as much character. And, unlike the Montecristo Open, this blend is definitely not a flop.

I am smoking this right now and thought to myself “wow this is pretty mild and I was expecting something with a punch.” so I checked out a review to see if my palate was off base but this review basically mimicked everything that I thought. Mine is a torpedo and isn’t drawing well, other than that a fantastic smoke!

Didn’t like this one at all. Bought it on reviews from others for about 5$ each x5 so not a big waste. Really dull and musty flavors to me.
      Oh well. Next!

Very well done review Inspector. I agree with your take on this cigar. It’s a bit mild for me, but it’s a good smoke.
