    Note from the Inspector :
Por Larranaga is the oldest brand still in production. It was created in 1834 and since then the marca develops light to medium blends, very elegant and soft. In the 1950s For Larranaga factory was the producing the finest cigars In Cuba. The Pro Larranaga factory was for many years the “student factory”, training the rollers.
At present, the brand comprises 3 current production cigars, the petit corona being one of my all time favourite short smoke and now the Picadores adding a larger format to the range.

    Appearance

The wrapper of the Picadores is between Colorado and Colorado-claro.
The veins are visible but the appearance is globally smooth and uniform.
It feels a bit soft at the touch and smells slightly sweet.

    Tasting

The start is very soft in mouth, with subtle mellow flavors developed around sweetness and flowers, such as chamomile or floral honey.
It bring a very light smoke, subtle and thin, which mainly hit the front of the palate.
It is not invasive, doesn’t incorporate the all palate, which is pleasant for a morning smoke.
Still the development is very low with no big noticeable variations of flavours during the first 15mn.

The smoke density gets richer and richer increasing the aromas and flavours on the palate.
Therefore, the flavours linger slowly reminding of nuttiness, with some hints of pepperiness or even grilled almonds hints. All this melted down by this great creamy texture.

The combustion is going well but the draw is a bit too easy without resistance, I personally like a bit of resistance in my cigars. The touch feeling wasn’t under filled, I guess it is just rolled a bit too perfect.
The ash of the Pot Larranaga Picadores is compact but not solid, and dispatch itself into small packs.
The strength keeps on increasing and taste evolves to more woodiness over taking gently the creamy texture.
The smoke is consistent and balanced. As expected the blend was light to medium all the way and never over increased.

Overall the cigar was pleasant. It has this distinct Por Larranaga taste and development ( creaminess and balanced blend) which should please all the aficionado of the brand. For the others, its easy aromas and strength will allow you to enjoy a great Habanos in a 45mn smoke, which share some similarities with the El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme. The chamomile infusion is something I would match with my Picadores, for it sweet and floral combination.

    Happy smokes!
